A few years ago I lost touch with a friend. She sent me a text message which I didn't reply to for a while (because I am extremely disorganised) then, I got a new phone and lost her number and message when transferring the sim card over (did I mention I was extremely disorganised?)!

Fast forward 4 years later and I've just gotten a message from her on Facebook. It's brought back a lot of cool memories and I can't wait to catch up with her soon.

Honestly, this is the first time social networking has actually worked for me! I can't believe it!

Do you social network? Why? Have you found someone from your past that you actually want to be in contact with or is it all randoms from school who knew you when you got up in front of the school and did a dance to Borderline by Madonna (just to throw out a random example... errr) and thus whom you'd rather forget?

@EyesLikeEmeraldCity I have to confess that sometimes when people find me on facebook I'm like... nooooooooo (I'm set to private and really never got it to social network per se... long story.. anyway...) This time I have no idea how she found me but I'm so glad she did!!

@mezbot i'm finding that I like db more than fb these days, because I can be more honest in a sense here. As a general rule, most of my friends on facebook are people who I actually want to know, so no old school friends or that sort of thing. I just went through a cull recently, and got rid of 60-70 odd people that I was friends with for no real reason. db is good :)

I Facebook, Twitter and, obviously, Dailybooth. Facebook is great for me as a way of keeping up with all my UK friends when I'm on tour. Yah, when everyone was getting on there I got added by a load of people from when I went to highschool (like 17 yrs ago!) that I really don't care about any more. Last year I did a cull on my friends list and dropped about 50. Twitter and Dailybooth I find I use more for making new e-friends all over the world, which is cool. I used to post a lot of vids on YouTube as well and made quite a few friends on there as part of the YouTube community. I kind of miss Myspace a little bit and may use my profile on there to re-invent myself as a photographer or artist, haha.

@tantam0q since I got onto #dailybooth I haven't really facebooked very much. My facebook is full of people that I already know in real life, and there are a lot from high school, some who I didn't really ever talk to when I WAS in high school. It's a bit weird.

@novanine Yeah I hear you... when I went OS I used my facebook account to keep in touch with my friends back home, it was easy! I toyed with starting a twitter account... before it got big but couldn't do it... I have (had) blogged for years (since the late 90s) and for someone who writes I couldn't quite marry having an account based on one liners that you shared with people you didn't know. But I get it more now and I probably use my facebook more like a twitter account actually.. I love the #dailybooth concept, it's a happy medium for me between blogging and twittering/facebooking... plus with the creative picture element... Never got into youtube (as a vlog)... actually I'm very camera shy and much prefer to be behind camera... I didn't realise at first that #dailybooth had such a huge youtube contingent.

Yeah, I realised I hated and wasn't at all comfortable vlogging, which is why I post a lot less on YT. Also just don't have as much time any more.
I've been wanting to start a blog for ages. I had a little false start on tumblr recently. Was thinking about trying again with Wordpress. What do you use?

@mezbot facebook really is just for stalking people you've lost contact with, when it comes down to it :P

@novanine I've used a LOT of blogging sites over the years... some don't even exist anymore.. but wordpress is very very good, codexed if you like a smaller community (journaling more than blogging), blogger is also surprisingly good (I used blogger for a long time (4 years?) when the site I was using totally crashed and died (taking all our journals with it...devastating, I can't even begin to tell you) ... went there temporarily and ended up staying...

@mezbot I love your success story! I don't have Facebook or anything of the kind, both because I hate Zuckerberg and his and the site's views on privacy with a passion, and because I have zero interest in the whole concept.
In the extremely unlikely event that I actually wanted to stay in contact with someone, I would have their phone number, e-mail address or IM account, or at least the street address of their parents. In the even less likely event that anyone who knew me would voluntarily plan to talk to me another time, my phone number is in the first search result if you google my name.
I often feel awfully old-fashioned in rejecting pretty much all the new and hip things on the Internet. I mean, keeping contact by e-mail, it's like reading telegraphs by the gas light! But somehow all the cool new services are for people purposely involving themselves with other people, and thus I simply have no use for them.

@mysinglesun hahahaha, you know these days people don't really have to work very hard to find people do they? Back in the day if someone wanted to find you bad enough, they'd have to make it happen! I hear you on the privacy issues..

I have a Facebook but I find myself getting bored of it these days.

Most of my Facebook friends are people I had one class with in high school or people who went to my elementary/middle school but I was never really friends with. :\\

One cool thing that happened is my best friend in grades 1 to 3 moved back to Cuba in grade 4 and we haven't talked/seen/contacted each other since then (over 10 years!!) but we found each other on Facebook. It was very surreal to hear about how he's in medical school now and going to be a doctor because I remember him as the boy who'd write plays for our group of friends to put on. LOL.

@mezbot Yeah, weren't there entire shows on TV devoted to bringing people back together? I mean, for the few remaining years unless Facebook, or more likely Google with their projected product Google Me, have bribed legislators into making use of their services mandatory for everyone, there may be still cases where people aren't available at the click of a button. Still, it seems that not being found is becoming the tougher thing to accomplish.
