So, that was the year that was – 2011. What a rollercoaster that one turned out to be! What stuff will we take with us from here:
The creation of Southern Sudan, the New Zealand earthquakes, the Brazilian floods, the Tunisia uprising, the Egyptian uprising, the Libyan uprising, the earthquake and tsunami of Japan, the Libyan civil war, the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, the killing of Osama, the Greek debts, the Chilean volcano, the world’s first artificial organ transplant, terrorist attacks in Norway, the final Space Shuttle mission, the London riots, faster than light travelling nutrinos, the population reaching seven billion people, the official end of the Iraq War and Samoa losing its final Friday (Friday, gotta get down on Friday…)
The deaths, sadly, came thick and fast this year and we lost Gerry Rafferty, Pete Postlethwaite, Elizabeth Taylor, Osama bin Laden, Jack Kevorkian, Betty Ford, Amy Winehouse, Steve Jobs, Dennis Ritchie, Muammar Gaddafi, Joe Frazier, Gary Speed, Kim Jong-Il and Vaclav Havel.
And we were certainly busy at the cinema too with the arrival of the final Harry Potter, as well as endless sequels: more Hangover, more Pirates, more Twilight, more Cars, more X-Men. However, in the realm of new films, we gained Sanctum, Gnomeo & Juliet, Red Riding Hood, Sucker Punch, Water for Elephants, Thor, Bridesmaids, Horrible Bosses, Another Earth, One Day, Contagion, The Ides of March, In Time, The Muppets, Hugo, My Week With Marilyn, The Adventures of Tintin and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
And as for me? I started the year being made redundant and end it back at my original company, two promotions later. I may not really have gone anywhere this year, but I’ve become more confident, developed myself and worked out a little more who my true friends are and, indeed, who I am. I suppose I’ve been frustrated but mostly, I’ve been pretty happy. I read 66 books over the year, from old classics like “The Time Machine”, to brand new novels like “Grow Up”. I’ve learnt a lot from the books of the year and I intend to try beat my record this coming year.
And I can’t leave without a mention to @ByronsWorld. Thank you, mister, for everything.
So come on 2012 – made it a good one. You might be our last chance!
And if you’ve made it to the bottom of this… what will YOU remember most from 2011?December 31st, 2011

We're obviously excited for snowboard season.
I hate the Midwest for this very reason.
I have to wait and wait and wait for the good snow to come.
I wish I was in Colorado right this very moment.December 10th, 2011
