On October 9th of 2009, he was killed in action while on foot patrol finding and diffusing IEDs, aka, improvised explosive devices. Stepped on one under a bridge which set it off, and that was it.
He was posthumously awarded with the bronze star medal for courageous achievement in a combat operation, as well as a purple heart.
In the coming months after he passed, a new airfield was being built in Afghanistan, and it was named the "Taylor Expeditionary Airfield" in his honor.
At the young age of 27 and the ranking of Staff Sergeant, he was described by his peers and his officers as one of the best marines they ever worked with. A strong leader, a passionately tactical thinker, and a true hero.
I just thought of him as a great brother, a fine inspiration and example of the human potential to have in my life.
If you met him, you would've loved him. It's just the way he was.
