My saxophone is almost finished being converted to the one-handed mechanism... I fly to Nebraska on the 23rd to pick it up!. Here's a pic from after the body was engraved. I can't wait to see it in person!

So in August I wrote my first fan letter in twenty years. A few weeks later, this arrived in the post. Stupid me, I had forgotten to put my resturn address sticker on the envelope. It was going across the pond to London. I just had visions of something going wrong where it had to be returned. but would lost in limbo not having my return address on it. Luckily it made it just fine. I had my address in the formatting of the letter. so that was good on me. :-)
If you don't know who Ronan Parke is, I suggest you look him up. He's an amazingly talented young singer from the UK. But I culd go on and on about him.. :-)0 commentsOctober 7th, 2011

You know it's summer in Texas when...
The "cold" water from the tap is hotter than you even want the *hot* water.
You see a high of 98 in the forecast and think " Oh cold front!"
There's so little rain, even the cacti look parched.
even as an atheist you say, " thank god for air conditioning!"
you select your parking space based on the likelihood of some shade rather than the distance from the door.5 commentsAugust 3rd, 2011

I'm very near to crying right now. :-(
not too long ago I received an e-mail from my sole student that he made the difficult decision to quit band.
This kid wan't the most gifted musically, and didn't have great technique or anything. But he was far and away the best student I ever had.
He was always attentive in lessons. You could tell he was always trying to process what I was telling him and trying to figure out how to apply it to his playing. He never just sat passively like a bump on a log expecting to somehow get better *just* because he was "taking lessons" He was simply the kind of student every private teacher dreams of having. Teaching him made the ten years prior of teaching thankless bumps on logs worth the suffering0 commentsAugust 2nd, 2011

Today is the third anniversary of the hemorrhagic stroke that took my ability to make music. It might as well have killed me. This is my useless arm/ hand. For a while, about a year ago it had started to make some very slow progress. But the last several months it's been quickly losing ground and getting worse than it had been.

This was my saxophone in April 2010 after being disassembled and stripped of the lacquer. It was due to be finished in March. In May I thought we were close, but a month ago the builder told me he over shortened some keys and was having to lengthen them again... Haven't heard from him since... :-( The third anniversary of my stroke is the 28th of this month. My birthday is the 31st. I was hoping to at the very least, have it by then.. but Now I'm not even sure I'll have it by the time school starts back up in August. :-(

Not really presentable today. but figured I was due for my #monthlybooth and had a topic
Today we will be discussing British-isms. :-)
Since we have so many members from the UK, I see alot of comments from Americans confused about what they're talking about so I thought I'd clear up a few common words that people in the U.S. aren't often familiar with
Jumper= sweater/hoodie
trainers= sneakers
crisps= chips
chips = fries
dosh= money
vest=undershirt
pants= underpants
trousers = pants
biscuit= cookie
Keep in mind I am an American myself and don't claim to be an expert on USA/UK language. I simply watch alot of BBC programming and have picked up on alot of the cross-cultural language.
If I've made any errors, I welcome any and all corrections

#MopingMonday
Monday is my day to stuff my face with nutella and obsess over my saxophone not being ready yet and wish it would just get finished so I could get back to making music. More of the same old crap. Last word from the builder working on my sax as far as when it might possibly be finished is " I don't know" The initial estimated completion date when I sent it to him March 2010, was March 2011. May is out of the picture. So I'm *hoping* he can finish it in June so I can at least have a month or so with it before the new school year and start to get familiar with the new mechanism and get my chops back in shape after being away from playing for almost three years..

daniel is a 31 year old male from United States.
About
I was a clarinet, saxophone, and flute performer/teacher until July 2008 when I suffered a hemorrhagic stroke due to brain cancer.. since then I've been teaching only one or two students and going through a rather monotonous life of going to therapy and not having much else to do.
So I bide my time with social networking.
Following them
They're following
Television
Most TV is crap nowadays. but I love The Big Bang Theory, Cash Cab and Top Gear from BBC. Used to love House M.D. but after the writer's Strike when they moved the night I never could watch it, or remember to watch it so I've missed te last two seasons and gave up on it.. :-(
Books
I'm not much of a reader.. especially not of fiction... Most of my books are educational in some form.. music performance practice, music history, audio recording techniques, acoustics, etc...
Music
from about 1991 ( eleven years old) until the beginning of 2009, I was strictly a classical music dude. then my nephew turned e on to Blood on The Dance Floor... Now all my friends and family think I'm a total weirdo for being able to go from Classical and Broadway to techno, with out a second thought :-)
Movies
The Ritz, Lord of the Rings( all of them), the Harry Potters, the most recent Star Trek, A Beautiful Thing, Trick, the original Willy Wonka, Akira Kurosawa films
