happy valentines day, y'all! i'll be spending mine attempting to get over this wretched cough and doing some general life sorting out! it's gonna be a wild one!
this cough is a real bitch, it took me hours to get to sleep last night because of it! my housemates probably hate me. oh well. only a few more months with them.
editing the magazine today, as is usual for me every other monday. there aren't all that many issues left now so i'm gonna enjoy it while it lasts! hopefully i'll get me some free pizza today like the old days, that'd be cool.
oh yeah, and my house's internet has vanished again, not really sure why. future students: NEVER go with virgin media!
still feel like poop. i'm not sure what's worse: the bass drum pounding away in my skull or the razorblades digging into my windpipe every time i cough (frequently).
battling through though! i'm playing guitar to distract myself and getting all excited about seeing brand new on friday by listening to their entire discography. best band in the world, right? jesse lacey has a perfect mind.
still not 100% today, i've picked up some nasty fluey virus that's making me all lethargic and achey. not great. still, made it into uni for my lecture and picked up a marked assignment, which i was so sure i'd failed, but it turns out i managed to scrape a 2.1! so pretty happy with that!
i also just read a review of my ep that i submitted to this independent music magazine in oxford. they're usually really harsh about bands so i was expecting to be verbally torn to shreds, but they were actually quite favourable, even if they did call me 'matt ayes.' they pointed out that i sound better during more refrained, acoustically driven songs, which i'm more than happy to agree with. despite all my big ideas, i never seem able to pull off more complicated rock songs with my little bedroom set-up, it's just not feasible.
i needn't worry about that anymore though, because as of yesterday i'm the lead guitarist in a new band! got the call last night and they picked me out of five people, despite the fact that i'm like ten years younger than the rest of the guys! it's gonna be cool recording in a proper studio and playing some gigs :) look out cardiff!
anyway, should probably get ready for my seminar now! have a good friday everyone!
currently suffering from the worst cold/sore throat in the history of colds/sore throats, but i WILL pull through! i'm going out tonight and intend on getting horrendously drunk with my friends. no blocked nose is gonna stop me!
the band audition yesterday went well i think, waiting to hear back from them now! such apprehension. i think i'll spend today recording a demo for the other band i'm starting, because then even if i don't get in, i'll still have something musical to keep me busy!

lily drove rachel, tom and i all the way to london and we spent the journey listening to great music, drinking beer and cherry coke, eating a billion sweets and playing would you rather. then we got the tube to highbury and islington to see tellison, and they were fantastic. i think they're probably one of the most underrated bands in the country.
anyway, after the gig we hung out with their singer steven and had a couple of beers whilst talking about effects pedals, which was very cool. eventually it was time to catch the tube back to the car, and during that little journey i saw loads of mice and we all got harassed by the craziest tramp i've ever encountered. he smelled like wee but it was funny.
anyway, we arrived back in cardiff at like 3am this morning and that was that! crazy day, but so good! i love spontaneous adventures like that, they make life memorable. today i have a follow up session with the band i tried out for about two weeks ago. i have a few songs to learn so i'd better get on with it, it's between me and another guy so i need to nail those tracks! see y'all soon.
so all my friends in different parts of the uk are going crazy about it snowing on twitter, but there's none at all here! it snowed on and off for all of yesterday but none of it seems to have settled. also, there was a load of rain yesterday evening so that probably washed a load of it away. i'm quite glad actually! i don't really get excited about it like i used to.
anyway, today is sunday, which means that not a lot will happen, but i'm going to try my darnedest to have a productive day :) i'll probably write a couple of things for http://www.reelvsreal.tumblr.com (*ahem*CHECKITOUT*ahem*) and maybe record some music seeing as it's been a while. i also need to get my tickets for tellison, as my friend lily is driving a few of us to london tomorrow for their gig! i'm really excited for it, road trips are so fun, especially when there's a gig at the end of them!
