I met my roommate in walking class 2 and a half years ago. I spent lots of time with her because we ended up being in the same group of friends but didn't hang out constantly, which is key to our sanity I think. We're still really good friends and rooming again in an apartment next year with 2 other girls. Roommates aren't always bad. Trust me....PLUS you get the social context freshman year, and that's what I LOVED about the dorms. Because after Freshman year no one is really interested in meeting new people. So warning....if you don't like who your friends are Freshman year...make changes THAT year or else you'll be stuck with them forever....not speaking from personal experience but from observation.
All in all...don't be worried about living in the dorms. It'll be fun and social and you'll have a blast no matter who you room with :)
