    Hello online friends!

So I was thinking how I keep being so preoccupied doing things that I don't tweet about them so I should tell the internet things and so I decided to do so with a picture to prove that I am actually still alive and indeed humanoid.

    This week I have:

    - Been ill: End of one bug dovetailed into another, self-justifying a sick day from work. I'm not one for calling it in regardless of symptoms usually. In my 7 years at my current job I've had maybe three sick days. Has to be said though, that the break was nice as well as necessary.

    - Been to see John Carter at the cinema: Me and my good friend Stuart took Orange Wednesday by the horns and went to the cinema in spite of there not really being anything on we were particularly bothered about seeing (aside from The Devil Inside which Stu felt too guilty to drag me to). So we went to see John Carter and I really loved it. The actors were well suited for the roles, the CG was both integral and well integrated without grating and the whole thing made want more of the same or similar. It's a shame that Disney felt the "Of Mars" bit wasn't a good end to the title because I bet that'd've secured enough interest to generate enough revenue to not completely dismiss sequel options. My only issue was with the nouns used for all Martian terms. It's kinda obvious they were created in a format that would never require they be spoken out loud.

    - Played at Friday Night Magic: So I go to McD's to get some food thinking that it's okay, I can use my card to get food then get cash out afterwards. As the bus pulled out to take me to FNM, I realised I'd completely forgotten to go get money. As such, halfway along the journey I get off at the hospital, thinking that there must be a cash machine there. Sign in WHSmith says "Cash Machine" so in I go only to find that it's off. Cashier said that there wasn't another in the hospital but she thought that there was one down the road. Off I went, ten minutes walk later en route to FNM I find a shop with a cash machine and then walk/run the remaining distance to barely make it to the venue in time. I discovered on recounting this story to those there that the venue accepted cards. So in honour of my single-minded stupidity and determination I played my brand new red deck and won three of my four rounds quickly and easily. Quite pleased overall. Tired, but pleased.

So yeah, my week in a few paragraphs. I should do this again. Especially as I'm seeing both the RH Experience and Stewart Lee this week as well as spending a few hours with the southern folk I've not seen since New Years. Should be fun, if sleepless. Hope you've had a good week and that you will have good weekend :)

    End of an era.

If you hadn't have been this beacon of regularity on here I'm certain many of us of this site wouldn't have found each other through DB. We wouldn't have found you either, which is equally important.

Well done for setting a date and sticking to it and here's hoping that we're able to keep in touch :) xxx

I don't think it's safe for me to say that a couple is perfect because when I do, they tend to last a maximum of 6 months thereafter. I do have one in mind, but SHHH, I want them to continue.

I love algebra because it means the most things can be worked out from base principles. Stats is the most horrible thing in the world due to the huge amount of formulae that is required to be in your head to get through it. Mechanics is great because of all the algebra. Pure is great because of all the conceptual fundamentals and the algebra.

Now I kinda want to go to my Uni lectures again. That urge is about 8 years too late... :-\

My sister has had a baby boy so I've bought him a book to set him on the right path :)

I hope he likes it. That is, when he gets to the age when he can lift the weighty tome off the shelves and look though it and maybe read it a bit.

When I was his age I got a hardback copy of Wind in the Willows which I didn't read until I was 11. What did you guys get for your 0th birthday?

Yesterday I didn't even tweet, let alone booth. So while I have a moment:

IM:GP is brilliantly exciting and the sound effects make empathy easy on the harder thumps in the film.
UMVC3 Heroes & Heralds is fun and addictive.
Last year's Doctor Who Xmas special puts this year's to shame but has oddly grainy picture quality on the interior shots.
Battlefield (7th Doctor) works great as both a well-told story and a point-and-giggle-at-the-80s.

That's better. Time I got to the pub that I'm already 45 minutes late for. Have fun with your evening x

So yeah. Xmas happened. I'm totally on the ball. Working 3-11 for the past three days hasn't lessened the effects of the holidays AT ALL.

I got some books I have an active interest in reading (for once), Tim Minchin's DVD with a t-shirt (which, while a nice idea as a gift, I'm not entirely convinced I'll ever wear), the new Doctor Who Bluray boxset and a fourth pair of pyjamas. Not too shabby.

The spirit of the Xmas time, I have now realised, is a thing that is mostly manifests in me by spending darkened evenings and nights around cheery sparkle and coloured lights with people I enjoy spending time with. My work hours this year have made that a distant memory. Without the impetus of a club night to book off Xmas Eve and with weekends I needed off before and after Xmas itself, I've missed out on the tradition of tasty food (read: buffet sausage rolls) at my Nan's with the family and drinks with school friends in Dudley. While I've worked four of the six Xmases I've been in this job, I've always managed to get to the events on Xmas Eve till this year. Add to that the fact that I've had no evenings spent lounging on the sofa with family watching whatever happened to be on TV and all-in-all I feel rather detached from the seasonal spirit.

I've been overcritical of Xmas songs played at work. I've been neglectful of all hyping events and streams with the Xmas cheer. I've generally been Xmas-adjacent for the whole period.

While I'm sure I will have good times seeing people in the four days of my week off I've already accounted for, I can't help but feel that they won't be all that festive. Which is a shame. I like festivity.

    How was Xmas for you?

I enjoy dressing up but I rarely get the chance to. Probably for the best considering the small quantity of suit-level clothing I own :-\

"Trim it a little bit," I said. Now I have no hair again. Damn it! Why don't hair-cutty people do exactly what I ask of them?
