My sister has had a baby boy so I've bought him a book to set him on the right path :)
I hope he likes it. That is, when he gets to the age when he can lift the weighty tome off the shelves and look though it and maybe read it a bit.
When I was his age I got a hardback copy of Wind in the Willows which I didn't read until I was 11. What did you guys get for your 0th birthday?4 comments5 days 5 hours ago

Yesterday I didn't even tweet, let alone booth. So while I have a moment:
IM:GP is brilliantly exciting and the sound effects make empathy easy on the harder thumps in the film.
UMVC3 Heroes & Heralds is fun and addictive.
Last year's Doctor Who Xmas special puts this year's to shame but has oddly grainy picture quality on the interior shots.
Battlefield (7th Doctor) works great as both a well-told story and a point-and-giggle-at-the-80s.
That's better. Time I got to the pub that I'm already 45 minutes late for. Have fun with your evening x1 commentDecember 29th, 2011

So yeah. Xmas happened. I'm totally on the ball. Working 3-11 for the past three days hasn't lessened the effects of the holidays AT ALL.
I got some books I have an active interest in reading (for once), Tim Minchin's DVD with a t-shirt (which, while a nice idea as a gift, I'm not entirely convinced I'll ever wear), the new Doctor Who Bluray boxset and a fourth pair of pyjamas. Not too shabby.
The spirit of the Xmas time, I have now realised, is a thing that is mostly manifests in me by spending darkened evenings and nights around cheery sparkle and coloured lights with people I enjoy spending time with. My work hours this year have made that a distant memory. Without the impetus of a club night to book off Xmas Eve and with weekends I needed off before and after Xmas itself, I've missed out on the tradition of tasty food (read: buffet sausage rolls) at my Nan's with the family and drinks with school friends in Dudley. While I've worked four of the six Xmases I've been in this job, I've always managed to get to the events on Xmas Eve till this year. Add to that the fact that I've had no evenings spent lounging on the sofa with family watching whatever happened to be on TV and all-in-all I feel rather detached from the seasonal spirit.
I've been overcritical of Xmas songs played at work. I've been neglectful of all hyping events and streams with the Xmas cheer. I've generally been Xmas-adjacent for the whole period.
While I'm sure I will have good times seeing people in the four days of my week off I've already accounted for, I can't help but feel that they won't be all that festive. Which is a shame. I like festivity.
How was Xmas for you?1 commentDecember 26th, 2011

"Trim it a little bit," I said. Now I have no hair again. Damn it! Why don't hair-cutty people do exactly what I ask of them?

I now have five concurrent games I am playing through on my PS3 and another installed that I haven't started yet. This sounds excessive but in truth, it just keeps me nicely occupied.

Today has been exactly the kind of work day that makes me feel useless.
New guy is good in exactly the ways I was when I started. Sadly this makes us a terrible team. Lots of oversight on my part and just not enough coverage of the basics. This is why I'm only now sleeping in spite of my finish time being 11pm and me sleeping in house. Jobs to finish, a cot to make and then 3/4 hr catching up with the online world that my friends and the people I want to be friends with inhabit. S'pose I should switch off and sleep before the morning rushes at me like a pavement does to a DIY bungee enthusiast with poor mathematical skills.
How are you at getting to sleep?3 commentsNovember 27th, 2011

Na-naaaaa na-na-na-na-na-na-na na-na-na na-na naaaaaaa!
Got me a "new" game. I say "new" because it was released two years ago and several of the levels are from previous games in the series, but I haven't played it before today.
I'll be honest, very little of this game is any different from previous Katamari games, but I've wanted to replay them lately and there are trophies to earn and the music, while not wholly original, has taken the old tracks and remixed, rerecorded and mashed them up to make the whole thing a joyous and fun piece of evidence for the defense of the argument that Japan is awesome. Counterpoints today's other game purchase rather well I think. [He said, foreshadowing another booth he planned to do later.]

I should have gone to bed a couple hours ago. Early start tomorrow and all. But today, after swearing my self off of playing any more Arkham City for a while due to overplaying it on Saturday, I looked up some of the hidden stuff online.
I wasn't looking for any of the stuff you find through a standard playthrough. I was after Easter Eggs; hidden rooms, subtext and radio broadcasts mostly. In doing this, I had an impetus to go back into the game on my return from work and in doing that I beat a number of things that I had thought, if not impossible, highly difficult and requiring skills I didn't have.
Upshot of this is that alongside my subconscious' insistence in making a new MTG Commander deck to play with my friends tomorrow, I've stayed up too much. So begins the task of clearing off all the cards from my bed so I can sleep. It's at times like this that I wish I had a room with a fully functioning table with useable space. Damn my massive bed! *shakes fist* *considers activities bed enables* *retracts previous shaking of fist* *[inappropriate gesture based reference to masturbation]*

This is what happen when I look in a mirror for any period if time whilst waiting for the camera app to get the lighting and focus right. On the plus side, I gather that stupid facial posing is quite popular on das interweben.
