I went to bed, but got the strong urge at midnight to write this speech for my english class. It sounds better when I read it aloud with passion.
Gay rights ♥
I’d like to start this off by saying that I consider myself to be a good person. I consider myself to be caring of others, and I consider myself to be tolerant and open-minded. I know that it’s somewhat of a duty as a good citizen to be able to hear all sides of an issue, and to be able to argue it rationally. But there is one issue that I can’t bring myself to respect the opposing viewpoint on. The fact that two men, or two women cannot marry if they so choose. I just can’t bring myself to understand nor respect the opinion that they should not be given that simple human right. They are people. People who commit no crime. Just love. Love so strong that they want to be officially united. I want to marry a man one day. A man who I fall madly in love with. A funny man, who is a good father. We’ll go on family camping trips and fishing trips, we’ll go to baseball games. We’ll fight from time to time. We’ll worry about money. We’ll own a house? Cars? We’ll have to pay hospital bills when one of our kids breaks a bone from falling off of his new bike. We’ll build a life together. That’s a natural human instinct. It’s what people, in general, do. Now if I was a man, who wanted to marry a funny man that I fell madly in love with, and I wanted to take our kids that we adopted, kids who we gave a chance in life, to baseball games, family picnics, fishing trips, what harm is that causing everyone else. What possible dilemma is that throwing at society? Because some people think it’s gross? They don’t like seeing two men or two women kiss? People of the same sex don’t “fit” together? That’s not the way God intended it to be? So then don’t look. And if you’re listening right now, and you think that gays, people, shouldn’t be allowed to marry, then if I see you kissing your spouse on the street one day, I’m going to be thoroughly grossed out. Because I don’t believe that people who are so against love, deserve love themselves.
