Hi, DB.
I am indeed still alive. It amuses me that all of my booths now seem to commence with that statement!
My sleeping patterns are hilarious right now. Watching hockey and writing during the night will do that to you. Went out tonight, which meant I got up at 3pm on the back of about 6 hours sleep - so you can work out for yourself what time I went to bed! - and was exhausted by the time I got home at about midnight.
Yet six and a half hours removed from that point, I'm still awake. I very nearly went to bed within the hour I got back home. Then I had some coffee so I could write for a few hours, watched a little hockey - Teemu f'ing Selanne, ladies and gentlemen - and am now observing the third F1 practice. I'll probably stay awake until qualifying, which is at 9am, and get some sleep afterwards. Oh well.
Since people have asked in the past, I've decided to provide a little excerpt from what I'm writing. Which, for those who don't know, is my first novel. Teetering on 45,000 words now, by the way. I should include a disclaimer: this particular excerpt I wrote tonight. It may not make a great deal of sense as a stand-alone piece of text. I've not read it back - as is the case with everything beyond my fourth chapter - so there are possibly/probably errors.
Anyway, if you fancy an insight into my writing: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dbgJumMQ61jn5q_3p3PCANTzyFjpNyzQRQymokVZ0wY/edit?hl=en&authkey=CMXT710
Other than that, I'll probably see you in a week or three, DB.0 commentsApril 9th, 2011

I realised I hadn't boothed since the very beginning of the month, and that I ought to demonstrate that the blood flowing through my veins is indeed still warm. Even if I do neglect DB horrendously these days, my intention is to drop in every now and then, if only to prove I'm not six feet under!
So this would be yours truly, at 4:39am on Sunday morning, sat in the kitchen. Why the kitchen? Well, I have discovered that when I try and write from the confines of my lounge, there are a thousand and one distractions. So I come down here to work on my novel, as it allows me to really focus in on what I'm doing. I reached 25,000 words last night, and the end of what I consider the first part of the story. If you believe a story can be dissected into a 'beginning', a 'middle' and an 'end', then I've just reached the end of the beginning.
I'm of the impression I'll have somewhere in the region of 75-85,000 when I come to contact publishers - in other words, when I consider it 'finished' - so I suppose you could say I've written roughly 30% of it. I'm genuinely more intimated by the whole process of attempting to get it published, than I am by actually writing a good first book. I've yet to conclude whether that is a positive thing or not.9 commentsMarch 26th, 2011

1] Today was fun. Transfer deadline day with one of my closest friends. The two of us have far too many inside jokes, and just crack each other up the entire time. It's the kind of friendship I wish I had more of, although saying that, I question whether I'd appreciate it quite so much if that were the case. Plus, any day which involves pizza, chicken wings and waffles is always going to be a success.
2] My dreams are usually bizarre, and last night punctuated that fact. I can vaguely recall the aspects of one dream I had, which saw me having my hair cut by somebody I had apparently pissed off. For she did half of it while screaming and holding me down, then tried to stab me with the scissors. I ran out the store while she threw permanent hair gel my way, attempting to force me to adopt an unfinished hairstyle for all eternity. I dove into another random store, only to find it was actually my bedroom. It had several TVs, as well as ludicrously expensive furniture, and a solid gold bed. I used that to woo a couple of members of the fairer sex, who were all suitable impressed. Then Avril Lavigne dropped by and kissed me. Which is perhaps the most bizarre part because - while I certainly wouldn't kick her out of bed - she's not someone I have ever considered one of my celebrity crushes. It was one of those dreams I woke up from and felt decidedly disappointed to have left behind, and truth be told, a little bit lonely.
3] It is a bit chilly tonight - fact: I usually struggle to stay cool even on the coldest of nights, so my saying that should speak volumes about the weather! - so I expect to wear this shirt for the duration. If a flannel shirt fails to keep me warm, nothing will.
4] ...yeah, that's all I've got.5 commentsFebruary 1st, 2011

Ketchup Lays. Canada Dry. The underwhelming feeling of another embarrassingly poor performance by the Leafs.
This is probably as close as I'll get to feeling like I'm back in Toronto until the next time I get to visit Canada...2 commentsJanuary 26th, 2011

Essentially, what it says on the cup.
That plus Top Gear is a winning combination.7 commentsJanuary 25th, 2011

Two things.
One: I'm holding a bottle of what is actually water, for good reason. Since I moved my bed into this room, I've run into one issue in particular. There isn't enough space on either side of the bed to put a bedside table, at least none of those I already own. What that meant is I had to put the glass of water I have at night, on the floor. Which was fine until, while I was out the room, one of my cats came in and decided he was thirsty. The glass was subsequently tipped over, and I spent the next ten minutes soaking water up from the carpet. Replenished the water, went back to getting ready for the bed... and the little bastard came in and tipped the new glass over! I was not impressed...
So I've put the water in a bottle and, if he gets in and decides to tip it over, I don't have to mess about mopping it up.
Two: today was one of those days where I kept saying I needed to shower, and kept putting it off. Now I'm in bed having not showered today, which is uncool. It has also made my hair go kind of odd, too. Hmpfh.

Leafs - Caps at the moment. HNIC makes every Saturday night a success.
Go Leafs Go!
Also, since I keep forgetting, I completely missed that I'd boothed for a 100th time. Was going to mention it last time, but again, it slipped my mind. It seems like no big deal, really. Nevertheless, on my 104th (I think?) booth, I feel a belated hoorah is in order?
So, um, hoorah for 100 booths. /excitement13 commentsJanuary 22nd, 2011

About
Former graphic design student, now a would-be writer. Would-be better off spending less time procrastinating, and more time actually writing! I adore Toronto, love the Maple Leafs (and hockey in general), and prefer pictures of myself to be in black and white.
Occasionally, I will add a picture not in glorious grayscale. I am cool with that.
