Having recently deactivated my facebook (needed some more time for various projects) I wandered onto my myspace this morning. It is really funny how the whole culture of myspace changed, it was originally this hip teen hangout (when i was like 16-18) then when it was sold to news corp everything ended. Myspace music was really pushed, which was cool at first, then it just went ballistic, really pushing, with big flashy ads, and throwing users into a new interface. They tried to push news on teens.
Think about that for a second, teenagers, who are totally apathetic towards everything. As myspace branched out into tv, comedy and fashion it showed that the marketing department had obviously been overhauled. Gone was the support for individuals, and featured profiles, suddenly a push for what pop star was on myspace. Unfortunately, most teens on myspace were into alt culture, with the scene/emo craze winding down. They just did not connect with their target audience, and facebook popped up. Those who weren't really into myspace fled to facebook, leaving only a few people remaining. Eventually it all wound down from there, the interface got worse and worse, myspace 2.0 came out with a big layout change and that pretty much killed it for me.
Oh well, myspace. We had some good times, lots of angst and bad photos. Some of us do think about you sometimes, but you've changed man, you've changed.
