Look out onto the sea
Friends
Learn it's ways
And see your future there
It's bounty is great
It's dangers too and varied
First storm thrown
Now calm
You may only be
In the eye
A brief respite
To founder unprepared in it's renewal
Terrible and beautiful
A harsh mistress
To any who scorn her
To the happy few
That get through earthly storms
And reach that Island
Of wordly delight
A caveat
In it's blue, calm waters
There are sharks
And poisonous snakes
Lie in it's grass
Ah the cold light of day on cheerful Massday morning
Lifted shadows from the trees that observed it's gentle dawning
Bringing comfort to the faithful that keep the day of rest
And suff'ring to the wicked who's night was ill progressed
A suffering that multiplies to that I can attest
Ah the cold light of day on cheerful Massday morning
Chases fantasies and dreamscapes that at night my dreams adorning
Those fantasies played out in dark recesses of the town
And dreamscapes large beyond belief in which our spirits drown
Awake I cannot build them up nor sleeping tear them down
But the cold light of day on cheerful Massday morning
Reveals much truth and sorrow to the eye that's e'er discerning
And payment must be rendered from the wicked and the just
Better here than in Eternity and better now than when we're dust
Forgiveness is the Lords to give, so... To Mass my friend or bust!
Airport coffee is more expensive now
And mixed with memories of bygone times
Of love won and lost and sorry tales of how
We came trough life to write these wond'ring lines
Oh what might pass if bygone times were changed
A different route was taken to deaths gate
Would life be to a similar path remained
Or altered to a worse or better fate
What joy for those rest lightly on their stool
Ne'er cast their mind for maudlin catch that's teeming
Not casting lines like old embittered fools
But rest and watch the rivers glide and gleaming.
So stop as your airport coffee swirls it's bitter last
And remember, no good comes with dwelling on the past
