Fakes. Being fake is such a big problem in our society, both in "real life" and on the internet. How many times do we see profiles on social networks of the same "emo" girl or boy. What about people who make up stories of their lives. I bet all of us have gotten those guilt tripped messages such as "I'M REALLY DEPRESSED RIGHT NOW AND I HAVE NO FRIENDS AT ALL, EVERYONE HATES ME AT SCHOOL AND I JUST WANT TO KILL MYSELF." Yeah, I do admit there are a lot of depressed kids and a lot of people really don't have too many friends, but in reality there are a lot of attention grabbers out there. As my dear friend @brewstah told me the other day, he believes that on the internet you somewhat have to be an even more honest person. I completely agree with that. The easiness to tell other people online about your life issues or life problems is pretty obvious. This is probably because they actually don't know anyone that you talk to or know (unless IRL friends are online too). The thing is, some people abuse this privilege by telling other people lies about themselves to make themselves look cooler than they actually are. Thing is, when the bomb falls that you weren't actually telling the truth you are completely going to wish you never did such a thing, I hate to do this, but I can say I have no real connection to this girl so I feel it's okay if I do such a thing. A certain female form my school, of whom I don't even know the name to (since my school is pretty big as my graduating class this year is about 300 people), said that her mother had passed on to the next life. This lie had gone on for quite some time and different candidates of this lie had grieved with the "poor" and "lonely" girl. Soon her mother had picked her up from school instead of taking the bus. A girl had caught her and asked who the lady was, the girl had responded her aunt, but another friend passed by addressing the mother shouting an abrupt hi. The girl, of course, was not in the know of the lie, and BAM little miss "my mother died" was busted. For the longest time all the school could speak about was the girl who lied about her mother died. Now, the girl lost a good chunk of her friends and probably screwed up her chances at making new ones for a bit of time. I can't say what actually happened to her though and I can't really say how she felt as I still don't know her, but if I ever was put in that situation (especially at her age) I would feel like the biggest idiot. Why is it acceptable to be such a fake over the internet if it's not acceptable in real life? Shouldn't the same rules apply? I know that I'm a pretty real person online. I can tell you all the pictures I post are me. The life stories I tell people are real. You can ask any of my friends. I have never understood the whole "lie about yourself" online act. Even back when I was 10 or 11. I did it once on Neopets because I thought I'd be cooler, but honestly it was the stupidest experience of my life. I remember I lied about one gig I had saying that it was much bigger than it actually was and everyone was asking me for proof so I told them that it was set on fire (thinking it was clever). Truthfully, I'm a pretty bad liar (which I think is a pretty good thing). But the same week I was expelled from the guild I was in, I was receiving a bunch of hate "neomail" and basically I thought my life was over. You know how it is at such a young age. I learned from way back then that honesty is the best action course to take, especially online, because I can say I do not want to be talking to a fake. I don't want to fear that everyone I talk to is a liar and won't have an honest conversation. I want to know that every time someone says that they like me both online and offline is real. I also want to know that I can trust people no matter what and I bet a lot of you feel the same way. My challenge for you is to be the most real person you can be on the web. I'm not saying tell everyone your life story, because honestly not even my best friend Ann knows it as it takes a lot of trust to tell a person such a thing, but honestly don't fake anything for others to think you are cool or better than you actually are.
Thanks be to @iiBrett @OhhNoItsKat @ispeakincursive @DriftingandFlowing @aubface @richieerah @Dr33Dr33z @HaleyofAwesome @Iamkoolerthenyou @SiMonster @TylerAteMyHeart @nayr139 @BBKMO @shawnmichaelcarter @emilytaylor @BENJAMINTROYSAVAGE @Jack10101010101 @Dividing_The_Craig and of course @brewstah for being so real to me. i just read all of this 8) and it's too true. I'm an awful liar, so i never tell lies. At my school girls had a habit of telling people they were "pregnant". Though with no bump and 9 months on no child. It was THE most believable thing ever.

    @thenamesanonymous Sometimes even if people don't lie online they're still fake. They say things they wouldn't dream of doing in real life. They do things they wouldn't normally, because whilst sitting behind that screen, they gain confidence. It's sad really. They think they are being themselves and are being true to the "code" but they're not really, are they. The things they are saying may not be lies but it's as if they're this whole other person. Not a better person either. It pisses me off.

    @Heamay i love art, i love it so much. but it has been set in stone since i was a child that i was to be a lawyer, at home we don't talk about art or anything. i can't talk back to my parents and i'm generally quiet. sure i could be myself and be more loud and outgoing and stuff but it would be regarded as "disrespectful" and i get in trouble for that kind of thing. it's for my own good. plus, i feel more comfortable being myself around people i can't see. i don't know why, i don't think about it. it just happens.

    i read the whole thing. you're right everyone hides themselves away on the internet cause they dont wanna face reality. they turn into "fakes" and cause drama on the internet as well lying to people they care about. i hate seeing fakes on here and when they talk to you they seem so nice and real then all of a sudden you get supsicious and work out this isnt who they really are. that yet again they are wearing a mask and covering up their true self. maybe they are too afraid. but there not taking a risk. and yeh i also believe everyone should be themselves whether on the iternet or not.

    @Heamay / @fruitpolo_milk
    I don't mean to interrupt this conversation, but if I may add. Sometimes people are really insecure in who they are and the internet is an easier way to express it. For example I used to hide a lot of my music online and post real songs about real life situations on YouTube. Yeah people knew that I'm a musician and that I'm a singer and everything, but sometimes it started shit when people found out I wrote about them in specific. Other times I would tell people situations that were actually happening in my real life that I wouldn't even tell my best friend, since they had no actual direct effect on the outcome. It's quite a tricky subject...

    @emilytaylor
    Thank you <3 I love you girl

    @unwrittenstory
    Hell yeah, I totally agree with you on that and that's why it always takes me a while to start calling internet people my real friends and what not. You know, you gotta go through all those tests ;-). But I can say it's the same way in real life. My best friend and I met about 11 months ago, but it was only 3 months in our friendship when she made the status of friend and 7 months in that she became a best friend. It took her a while and she's the sweetest and best person you could ever meet <3

    That's what I like to call an attention whore. Sometimes people actually have had a traumatic experience in their life where they never got enough attention from parents and what not so therefore they try getting attention in other ways, and other times people are just really stupid and like attention. It sucks though and sometimes I hate dealing with people of such statures.

    fakes are everywhere.
    especially in highschool.
    most of the girls in my grade are horriblely fake.
    it really sucks.
    my whole grade is split into cliques.
    we're like the stereotypical highschool in a movie.
    it's horrible.
    a year ago, there was this girl, and she made fun of everyone.
    and she called this guy.. i forget what. but it was cruel.
    he kinda flipped shit, shoved her up against a wall, and wrapped his hands around her neck. it was scary. he got suspended,
    there was a lot of drama that went on behind the scenes, no one really knows what happened.. but it just sort of blew over.

    i have a couple best friends, and we can truely be ourselves around each other;
    i love it, but they are honestly the only people who i have ever seen for themselves,
    but ive been really close with them since grade one .

    anywaaays, there's my pointless high school story.

    I'm different online than I am in "the real world", but that is only because i'm confident enough to talk online. I'm still the same person, I still like the same music, wear the same clothes, draw the same drawings. The only difference is that I talk.

    I don't know. Would that be counted as being "fake"?

    There are people I meet every week that have never heard my voice, and that's not really healthy. A few people think I'm actually a mute.

    So if this is me being a fake, is it necessarily a bad thing?

    It really depends on the person. I know a lot of pretty girls who actually mentally have something setting them off that makes them legit believe they are ugly. Thing is they were abused as little kids, or their parents had some say. You know those cliche stories that no one believes can happen, sometimes they do which is pretty damn pitiful.

    @reevesmiranda
    I totally give you those stories. Yeah drama has surrounded me especially this past year at school. At my old school I had quite a bit of pointless ass drama after my girlfriend and I broke up. It was the first time I really had substantial drama at my old school. Before that it was basically "omg i don't like that bitch" drama... But yeah this year has been so hectic with drama and it's so pointless, but it's mostly caused by the fake reality everyone is giving themselves.

    @unwrittenstory
    Oh hell yes, I know how you feel there. Being lied to is the suckiest thing you can ever face. Friendships have never been a strong forte for me, I have a lot of "friends" which are people who just say bullshit to party with me or get something outta me, but honestly it's rare that I can really call someone a true friend.

    @fruitpolo_milk
    HAHAHAHHA AHHAHAHAHAH NICE GOING!!!!!!! Hell yes.

    @Lifesamess
    It's different for each person. You have to take it as, is it helping you? Is it helping the greater community? Like, are you being put down everyday because you aren't fully showing your true personality? For example, I don't care what I say in real life or online, I will never filter myself in an audition or anything or act more professional than what I am because that's not who I am. I'm me everywhere I go. Yeah sometimes I fall into a trap where I try to impress someone, but is it helping me? No. They are soon going to discover who I really am. I used to be a really shy kid, it's not the worst thing that will ever happen to you. It taught me to listen to my surroundings. Just because you are quiet doesn't mean you are faking your personality, it could just mean you aren't used to that surrounding just yet, or you are studying your surroundings really hard.

    ok here is some logic that i slightly differ with. i feel that with the internet, you DON'T have to be real. if u meet somebody over the internet (and if they happen to be far away) you don't necessarily have to tell the truth about everything. when 9/10 times u aint ever gonna actually meet the person, it's not like you are lying to their face. BUT with this logic, this is USUALLY (but definitely not all) the case where the person that is lying only expects to be talking to the other person for a short time. if it turns out to be something real and fun, then yea i can understand being real.

    i think everybody SHOULD be real over the internet (but like you said not their life story as only like 4 ppl know of an issue im going through) so it seems like you do make a good friend, just as good as ur IRL ones. i know longer deal with fake ppl. those will just come in and out my life if i know they were fake. if i be real with someone, why not the other way around. but i do admit to exaggerating (but not flat out lying) to some online ppl i met. i had my reasons. other than that, im usually real on the internet b/c you could find some potential awesome friends out there.

    longest comment i gave you? i think so

    ok, then help me out with this one.

    Is it okay to be fake if you are protecting your own sanity?

    I am gay. DB knows that. FB knows that. Youtube knows that. everyone of my IRL people know that. Even my co-workers know that, and I dont open up to them at all. Everyone knows except my family.

    My bother and my dad especially are against it.they dont want anything to do with homosexual people, thinking that it will rub off on them. Not only do i think that this is complete and uter bullshit, but I know that if I told my family, I wouldn't be left alone. The jokes, the embarrassments, the asinine and hurtful comments would start and I dont think that I am emotionally stable enough to take the shit from my family. My mom doesn't care either way, and my sister already knows, but other than that, I'm scared to tell everyone else.

    So is it okay to pretend to be straight in front of my parents until im clear of the blast radius of the constant jeering? I do plan to tell them, but not while I live with them.

    The main thing I want to counter to that with is, if it's okay to lie to someone over the internet because you aren't logistically lying to their face why isn't it okay for me to call you an asshole or use a racial slurr against you on the internet. Like I know people may not be in your life for long and you will never meet them, but it's disrespectful to lie to someone in general.

    @UnderclassHero
    Once again, it's a judgment of is it the best for you. Yeah parents raise hell about homosexuality and they aren't very supportive of it at some points, but is it hurting you in the end? Sometimes lies seem to be the "solution" to your problem, but in the end most of them don't help you out. It's really hard to face closed mindedness, but sooner or later your parents are going to have to deal with it. Everyone will have to deal with it. It's not a matter of it is right or wrong, it's a matter of who you are and what you stand for. If your parents don't accept you for who you are and basically disown you, I do console you on that, but maybe there is a reason that they would do such an act. Your parents can't be mad about that for forever, you were held in your mums womb for 9 months, if this isn't the son she raised then what is? It's who you are, you shouldn't let other people change that and by them not accepting you they are trying to change you. If they loved you right now while being a closet gay, why won't they love you not being one. That's what people don't realize. Someone coming out of the closet shouldn't change how you feel about them. They are the same person, they are just letting you into their life just that much more.

    i absolutely loveeee this booth. i had to favorite it.
    I just cannot stand fake people ither. I just found out one of my closest friends on here was fake and it did kinda crush me cuz i was like now i dont even know whats true about them and this stranger knows all this stuff about me.and i just dont understand why ppl cant just be who they are and post their own pics.
    Peopletry to be like others to feel accepted and it takes all diff kinds of ppl to make this world go round and i wish ppl wud just realize that.

    but i love ur booth and totally agree with u<3 also love the pic<33 u seem way amazing.

    I have the problem with the kids that cut their wrists for attention. The people with the real cutting problems try to hide it, and you usually have no idea they cut. They are the kids that need worrying about. Bleh. Fakeness is stupid.
