For every village there is a village idiot and Dailybooth, sadly, is no exception. What purpose does it serve to go around people’s pictures and write spiteful, hateful comments about their appearance or their lives? If you have an issue with someone, you don’t have to follow them. Just let them get on with their life and you get on with yours. If you want to be a hater, go to YouTube.

THOU SHALL JOIN IN THE COMMUNITY

Some people complain that they feel cut out of the community. These tend to be the same people who take pictures once a week, follow eight hundred users and never comment on any of them, and moan in all their blurbs that no one comments on them. Keep your profile open unless you have good reason not to, attend gatherings, join in games and comment other people.

THOU SHALL NOT ASK TO BE FOLLOWED

Followers accrue over time and come when you are funny, interesting, clever, witty, consistent and friendly. Asking to be followed is an easy way to make sure you never are. Most people will not be offended if you don’t follow them, so telling someone that you’ll follow them if they follow you won’t elicit much of a response. Get followers the way the rest of us did – by paying attention to the commandments.

THOU SHALL SHOW RESPECT TO ALL BOOTHERS

As in any community, not everyone shares the same views. Do not insult other people and show respect to them and their beliefs. This includes not bad-mouthing people you may not like on your own account or even advertising your own blog or YouTube videos on an account that is not yours. You don’t have to agree with what other people say, but as long as it isn’t offensive, they can say whatever they want.

THOU SHALL LIMIT NAKEDNESS

Keep the nudity tasteful. Naked Friday exists for nudity and therefore there is no reason for it the rest of the week. It is not a competition to see who can lose the most clothes. Naked Friday should be about comedy, not sex, and keep in mind that there are younger users on this website who should not be exposed to certain things. If you want to be sultry or cover your privates with nothing but a fingernail, then go and apply for work on a porn site.

THOU SHALL RESPECT THE “DAILY” IN “DAILYBOOTH”

The name was chosen for a very good reason. If you are busy for a day or two and can’t get to a computer, then get someone to cover you, or else don’t worry about it. And sometimes something happens by the end of the day that makes you want to booth twice in one day. Both of these are OK, but do not upload a photo an hour, and do not leave it to once a fortnight. Keep it as daily as you can.

THOU SHALL FIND THE BALANCE

Sometimes pictures from Google are funny, but that isn’t what the website is about – we’re supposed to be seeing you. And sometimes editing arty photos is very nice, but it can be a little overwhelming if it’s all the time. Find the balance between regular snaps and arty uploads.

THOU SHALL LEAVE COMMENTS ON THOSE FOLLOWED

One thing that has always seemed odd: why would you start following someone and then never comment on any of their pictures? If you’re going to follow someone then you should make an effort to talk to them and answer questions they leave on their booths and join in with whatever they’re talking about. People are grateful for comments and they may even return the favour. Make an effort with anyone you’re going to follow.

THOU SHALL REPLY TO COMMENTS

If people do comment on your pictures, do your best to reply to them! Answer their questions, ask them some and maybe even thank them for commenting from time to time. Read all of your comments and try to get to know the people leaving them.

Above all, enjoy yourself. It’s a social networking website with fun in mind. Lots of people are playing games, having interesting conversations and taking good photographs. Why would you stay on a website that you hate? As soon as you start complaining that the website is boring, it’s probably time for you to leave. Enjoy your time on Dailybooth and make the most of it and the people therein.
