    BLACK FIRDAY

I wasn't crazy enough to get up at 3 in the morning and go shopping, but I did stop by Gamestop during my work day.

I bought 'Fable 3' and 'Fallout: New Vegas'! But now I can't decide which to play first! (I love this kind of torture...)

Have you played these games, or have you bought a new game lately? Did you go shopping on Black Friday?

Song of the day: 'Caribbean Blue' by Enya. Probably my favorite song of all time, and the video is gorgeous.

Harry Potter is nearly through after a decade of dominance in the theatres and in the minds of people around the world!

I've read the books; there's so much going on that I can hardly keep track! J.K. Rowling has built a beautiful world that stokes the imagination and that, I believe, has had a positive influence on children. Anytime a kid is reading it's a good thing =)

THAT SAID, I was wondering who your favorite character in 'Harry Potter' is that isn't Harry, Ron or Hermione!

    Is it...

    Severus Snape
    Luna Lovegood
    Lord Voldemort
    Albus Dumbledore
    Draco Malfoy
    Bellatrix LeStrange
    Hagrid

If it's none of the above, please write-in your choice!

My roommates have a poodle named "Rey" ("king" in spanish). I don't think he quite lives up to his name, as all he seems to do is bark and bark, all day long. He never stops. Maybe he IS like a king, then!

I'd prefer that they had a dog like @tug. @tug is my kind of dog. He's brave, resourceful and great at parties!

    Do you have any pets?

Bullying and Teen suicide (especially amongst LGBTs) has been a busy topic as of late.

When I was in grade school, I was often called "piggy" by the meaner kids, because my nose was very short and upturned. It became a daily routine, and eventually I got used to it, the way one gets used to chronic back pain.

When I was in middle school, they stopped calling me "piggy" and began calling me "faggot", mostly because of my wandering eyes in the boy's locker room. I got used to that as well. If I had a second chance at my childhood, I'd probably resolve these situtions by beating the living f*ck out of those kids, but hey, when you're young and have a submissive personality, there's not much you can do besides tell the adults (which leads to more ridicule and often does nothing to resolve the issue).

The name calling continued through High School and literally ended the day I graduated. After that, I didn't have to see any of these people again and life got immensely better. Funny thing is, I get friend requests from these people from time to time on Facebook. Maybe they've forgotten how their words hurt me, or are completely clueless...

Anyway, I know there are zillions of kids out there who living the Hell that I went through *right now* in their own towns and schools. To those kids who are at the breaking point, you have a choice:

Fight back. Bullies hate resistance. Swing and scratch and tear or do whatever you have to (within reason). If you get beat up, that's ok. You'll have stood up for yourself. If they come back for more the next day, give them more. Eventually, they will give up or adults will step in. Adults have trouble noticing inner pain (and most teens won't tell them), but they sure as hell notice bloody lips and black eyes.

This might be controversial advice, and many won't agree, but it seems fairly obvious that talking to bullies does nothing at all. The best course is for "regular" kids to unite against bullies. I'm interested in hearing everyone's opinions on this.

    Retro Sunday!

My mom and I at some local parade in the 80's. The theme was "School Daze" or something similar. My mother played the teacher and I was one of her students.

As the float made its way down the street, my job was to cause trouble (pinch her rear, throw crumpled papers at her, etc.) and she would discipline me with her yardstick or spank me!

These days -parade or not- she'd be arrested for that and I would end up in a psychiatrist's office or something lol. I also used to play trumpet and march in parades with the school band. I hated marching, though, and I sucked at playing the trumpet!

Did/do you play instruments in school, and do you like parades?

    Retro Sunday

It's 1987ish and I'm on the left, ruining some kind of family picture! The two elder folks there were my grandparents, two brilliant souls whom I would do well to mimic as I grow older. They were well-educated, accepting and forward thinkers!

Were your grandparents an inspiration to you? For you younger folks, do you spend time with your grandparents?

On a side note, the man behind me wearing the tie is a vampire duke from Spain. I haven't seen him in years and I often wonder what he's been up to.

I apologize for not boothing very often, but I love to comment on other peoples' pics more than making my own!

I also don't post too many pics of my ugly mug. If you feel the need to see it, it's buried down there every so often lol

Anyway, I just "discovered" this band called 'Mumford and Sons'. I love the way they groove! Here's a track of theirs called 'Little Lion Man':

And you, what are you grooving to these days?

I was talking with my uncle the other night (he's the family historian), and he showed me my great-grandfather's watch (not in this pic, btw).

After staring at it for a bit, it occured to me that we, as a society, don't make heirlooms anymore. Most of what we produce and use these days is disposable. Would my grandchildren want my cellphone, Playstation, DVDs or paperback novels?

Think of your possessions. Is there anything you've purchased in recent years that you think your descendants would want? I don't have anything, I'm afraid. Anything I have of value was passed on to me from my grandparents.

    Weird...and sad?

A Vietnam memorial in Spokane's park. I took some time to read the names, maybe to see if I could make a spiritual connection.

It's funny, because out of all the statues and "artsy" things in the park, this is the only one that hasn't been touched by vandalism. It's almost as if people know better than to mess with it.

Do you have any war memorials near your home?

In Spokane, the park had this nice, mini-amusement area, where everyone was happy and eating! My friend and I aren't much for ferris wheels, though, so we just walked past.

And you, do you like ferris wheels?
