Welcome to the lovely @marcegaral! Whose eyes could capture and behold me... Oh am I being creepy again <3 xoxoxoxoxox

This picture today is of one of the fans that were part of the fun little packages given to the girls that came to my nephews 7th birthday party the other day. I thought they were rather beautiful and such a nice touch. The place looked like a glittery disaster zone afterwards but everyone had a good time, it was all worth it. :)

This is cool looking, did you edit this or was it purely camera work?

It's really an arresting image, but I can't get a visual grip on it. It seems to have three of four layers, between those oval lens flares, the Japanese woman with the staff/flag, the woven texture of (color-banded?) cloth through the middle, the page of an opened book. In fact, the woman looks to me like she's partly risen out of the book!

With @CrazyNovice, I've got to ask -- Is this an elaborately worked collage, or just some dandy thing that popped into the lens, ready-made, O @Serendip?

I'm always erring on the side of caution... OK I'm usually flying into things with reckless abandon... Ok!!! I'm doing both, and each of them at the exactly the time I should be doing the other one hahahah. ^_^

Yes your suspicions are correct, it is a Photoshop creation, and Jim your guess of 3-4 layers was bang-on with 4.
I didn't save it with its layers but I made another picture for the side bar to show what went into it and how the original looked.
The thing to remember with all these layers is that in this case only one of them had 100% opacity, and only one had just 'Normal' blending mode.
Add to that a little creative use of the Smudging tool, and the stretched to fit crop of the out of focus glitters from the coloured shiny stuff, you're about finished with the 'Post'.
The lens it was taken with was an 85mm F1.8, and at 1.8 it has a beautifuly shallow depth of focus, it is really a delight to use, and it is not even an L series lens.

Thanks guys (that includes you Alex) for your comments!!! <3

Beautiful picture @Serendip, you're so artistic. Wish I had artistic ideas like this, mind you I have zero skill on the technical side so my ideas would be wasted!

@Bannie the only ideas that are wasted are ideas that never get to see the light of day! I know we are not all Picasso, but even Pablo had to get his ideas from somewhere. Inspiring people are so under rated. Anyway you make your art in music and teaching so there :P
    Thanks, You! <3

Photoshop is a marvelous tool. My efforts are nowhere near yours, @Serendip, so I get quite a bit of fun out of trying to figure out what you'd have to do to accomplish what you do. While the mystery is gone on this one now that you deconstructed it, the awe is not! Good job! and thanks!

I remember when I first started using photoshop, maybe 16-17 years ago, it was PS5, and it came bundled with a flatbed scanner. It seemed imossibly complex, but I soldiered on. Now here I am using CS4 (I have no idea what number that equates to) and I think I am finally starting to get the hang of it :)
    Thank you very much sir!
