People say that a new year is full of possibilities.

People say that we should let go of the past.

People say that we should move on.

People say that it'll be fine.

People say that…

People…

… what do people really know.

Nothing stays the same. Everything is moving. The things we love disappear, the things we hate disappear… in the great scheme of things, we and our problems are not really that big, that important. We live in our little bubble where we take everything so seriously, where we care. About every little thing. But really, what does it matter in the long run? Sometimes, I feel detached from the world and observe, amazed at how we run around like ants. I can feel that there's a purpose to all this running, but I can't see it. Lines of people, directions, hidden motivations. All of these things determine our lives without us ever knowing.

We are stuck in this life. This one life that we get to live, get to do with as we please. But what are we really doing? We sleep, get up, get ready, go to work/school, interact/interact/interact, go home, eat, check emails, sleep. Lather, rinse, repeat. At least that's what I see when I look at the lives of so many people, old and young. Monotony. Routine. Rut.

And I can't fathom how anyone could live like that… without all the excitement and joy that live can bring. Without all the glorious things we can find on this earth. Living, for me, is a constant struggle. I struggle with the shower head in the mornings, with my car, with all the other cars(!), with a parking space, with my keys, my collegues, my computer, my boss, my family, my projects, deadlines, illustrations, abstracts, proposals, applications… I struggle the whole day long. And that's where it gets important. You have to learn how to love this struggle. This overcoming of obstacles. Love it or die, there's no in between. There's no point in living if you just glide around like you're drawn by invisible wires.

Do.

Struggle.

Change.

Live.

Here's to 2010.
Here's to change.
Change what's good.
Change what's bad.
Change for the sake of doing something, change yourself and change others.
Change your surroundings.
Change your perception, see things from other perspectives.
Change your clothes, try something new.

Listen to what people say, but know that nothing they could say can ever be as important as the feeling you have in your soul when you open your eyes and heart to a new year. A new day. A new opportunity.
