I'll go through all this before you wake up...

Can you say heat wave? I know, I know. It's so mundane to talk about the weather. But when it's reaching like 100 degrees everyday it's sort of hard not to. It's also sort of hard to even think about getting dressed in the morning. This outfit is bordering on mundane too, but this is all I could muster putting on when I knew I was already going to be sweating at eight in the morning. You can bet that my hair -which is driving me crazy right now anyway- was pulled up and off my neck right after these photos were taken.

Remember the promise as a kid you made...

It seems to be becoming a bit of a habit for us lately - going to ride ferris wheels and such while having terrible carnival food like nachos and cheese and funnel cakes for dinner. This time it was on a much smaller scale as we attended a local high school's annual summer carnival. It was a beautiful evening and I think we were just looking for a good excuse to get out of the house!

Though the water's a-rising, there's still no surprising you...

As for yesterday, it was such an amazing day! Whatever sleepiness I have to struggle through this morning will be worth it. We snapped a few photos that I'll try to share with you tomorrow. In the meantime, I hope you like these that Tom and I snapped late last week on a pretty summer day in between thunderstorms.

It's not too late to feel a little more alive...

The fun shouldn't be too hard to come by because on Tuesday we're heading down to DC to catch The National play the DAR Hall. I'm too excited! We're going to spend the day walking around Georgetown and taking in some touristy sites. I'm expecting my new digital camera in the mail today so we're sure to take tons of photos. I suppose if it doesn't show up I could always go old school and actually shoot film. That's a novel idea!

But never have I been a blue calm sea...

Saturday afternoon Tom and I wanted to get out and enjoy a bit of the nice weather so we drove out to the Hans Herr House. The Hans Herr House was built in 1719 by the Mennonites that originally settled in this area of Pennsylvania. Now it's been turned into a museum but to be honest, we've been out there a few times and the museum portion never seems to be open. Nevertheless, it's always nice to go walk around the grounds. There's a lovely orchard of crab apple trees, an Amish farm next door that usually has its work horses in the stables close by and a 1700s smokehouse that still smells like smoked meat -not sure if that's a good thing or not.- Of course I couldn't resist feeding the rabbits and chickens some clover through the fence.

    Leith Clark...

The more I find out about Leith Clark, the bigger my girl crush grows. Cute, talented, enviable style... what more could a gal ask for? I love that she says her style is part Marianne Faithful, part kids from Mary Poppins. Perrrfect! The fact that she's the talent behind Lula Magazine cements the fact that I'll have to get my hands on a copy!

Crack a window, crack a broken bone...

I picked this blouse out from Modcloth and was excited about the pretty spring print and the little bow tie on the front. But, once I had it in my hands, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to wear it. I tried it under a pair of overall shorts - definitely not for me. Under a corduroy jumper? Too hot. With a pair of vintage jeans? Too much blue. Tucked into a skirt? I couldn't find the right skirt. Finally I paired it with these high waisted shorts and everything fell into place.

I fall asleep in your branches...

Today Tom and I decided to take a detour on our way home and check out a local county park. We intended to walk out to an overlook with a view of the Susquehanna River but I was woefully unprepared in my wedge sandals for any sort of real hike. Instead, we just wandered up the trail a little bit and vowed to make a return trip with more appropriate footwear and a picnic lunch.

It was a really lovely area, and unlike any I've seen thus far in PA. As much as I love the outdoors, we really haven't done much exploring since moving here. Putting that on my list of things to do! I seriously wish these were scratch and sniff pictures. There was jasmine and honeysuckle blooming all around us and it smelled amazing!

    Revolving Styles Giveaway.

Hm... I've never been much of a jewelry wearer myself, but this necklace is making me reconsider. Wouldn't it be perfect paired with a flowing sundress? Or just the thing to dress up a pair of shorts and a tank top? It's got a great 70s vibe that I've really been craving for this summer. One of you lucky gals will get to call it all your own thanks to Revolving Styles!

All you have to do is hop over to Anna's lovely shop, take a peek around and then leave a comment about whatever caught your eye. In a week, I'll announce the lucky winner and in no time at all, this pretty necklace will be hanging around your neck. Good luck!
