Yeah so the Half Marathon was today and i gotta tell you guys it was pretty amazing.
The weather was AWESOME, it started with short burst of rain in the early moarning and by the time of the race it was chilly and bright with some sun Around 12°C.
The atmosphere was electric and i was in a good mood :)
Overall 4,000+ people took a part of the race i took the 849th place with the time of 2:12:25. im happy with it :) improvement is just around the corer for next time!

oh and the winner did 1:10. NUTS. he basically sprinted the all way...

    Yay! You finished in the top 20% of runners. That's very respectable. Where's your medal? Didn't they give you a medal for finishing? How about a shirt or a hat?

    So, aren't you just itching to try your feet at the full 26.2?

    well i only got a shirt last year because this time i registered differently but i will try and get a shirt as well :)

    The full Marathon? well funny that you say that because next year its going full for the first time. am i up to it? im not sure... the Jerusalem's tracks are pretty intense, if all flat and all i think i could run for 3 maybe 3.5 hours at my current shape. of course i would suffer much afterward...
    How do you recover after a marathon? how long does it takes it? are you out of energy for days?

    oh and and it turns out my boothday is just a day after your hehe :)

    @Fanchy thanks man! yeah hes pretty nuts :)

    That looks neat. I'm always interested to see the medals for different races.

    After all of my long runs, 2 hours or more, I sit in a tub filled with ice cold water for at least 30 minutes. All of the micro-tears in my muscles and the strain on my joints need a reduction in swelling. It's also what you do before the race. What you eat 2 evenings before. Building up the aerobic capacity so your muscles can process all that oxygen to burn the glycogen and glucose. If your muscles don't have the capacity then your body switches over to anaerobic respiration and that's what causes so much pain.

    It is totally doable! It takes time and dedication. Both of which you can muster easily.

    Happy Boothday btw.

    @recamel Congrats on finishing that half! Of course, the next step is going for the full. I'll admit that the 26.2miles is a lot tougher than the 13.1, and you could probably gun for a 4.5-6hr marathon.
    Unlike @awed_job I've never taken an ice bath after any of my runs (although I did jump in an ICE COLD *shivers* fountain after the Philly). While I know all about the importance of all that technical nutrition about running, I've never properly achieved success during a race. ITS ALL ABOUT THE TRAINING.

    @opazazzyzen :) glad you like it, That area is called the Jerusalem Forest, it has a very though route to run because theres a 1-2km uphill part at the end of it, basically until picture 161 :)

    haha well its not easy but it's my cellphone :) i did the same thing last year and now i'm creating a movie out of it. its hella fun, makes the run alot more interesting (notice the people smiling at me :) ) and it slows you down. alot of the picture were taken while i'm running backwards hehe

    @swedestralian well yes the next step is the full thing but before doing so i want to improve my time at the half marathon. Jerusalem's route is VERY though and i'm due to race on flatter trainees to see how good i can get. i believe on a flatter surface i can do around 4h.
    how many have you done so far?

    @alethea thanks :)

    @Francis thanks man :)

    @SofiaLaRee haha well i he was going so fast its really unbelievable that he did it for such a long run :)

    @morningdew thanks :)

    @recamel Officially I've run 3 marathons and one half. This year I'm thinking about doubling those numbers. My goal is to qualify for and run the Boston marathon, but I'm about an hour too slow. Like I said, it's really all about the training. Last year I didn't put my heart into it and definately noticed a difference in my performance.

    I checked out that course and it looks really nice to run on. I can see why it'd be tough though, seems kind of hilly.

    @Recamel There's more to it than just an ice-water bath. There's no way for me to run 42.195km without getting lactic acid build up. I'm moving pretty slowly the day after the race but I go for a nice little jog and work all those baddies out of my system and by day 2 I'm feeling much better.

    I eat salty foods like potato chips and soup. I drink lots of fluids. I go for a massage at about day 3 to get all of the remnants worked out.

    I am partial to this year's medal. It has more character. I am giving serious consideration to running in your marathon. I've always wanted to visit Israel and I like running new races. I must ponder this a bit more.

    @swedestralian So you are finishing in just over 4 hours then? Totally doable. Have you considered training with a running club?

    Qualifying for Boston has been a life-long goal for me. The older I get, it seems the faster I get. Soon the vectors will cross and I'll be old enough and fast enough to make it. This could be the year for me. I ran a pace of 4.55min/km in today's race and I need a 4.73 average pace to make the 3 hr. 20 min. qualifying time for the 40-44 year old male bracket. Granted it was just a 7k race but my training times seem to support it.

    @swedestralian well wow man, 3 marathons at the age of 21 is pretty impressive! be proud of your self :)
    I'm not very familer with the Boston Marathon but i will look into it, seems interesting enough :)

    oh yeah that course is very interesting and nice which is why i love running around jerusalem. Hilly much, yup. i suppose you'v check out my photos?

    @Awed_Job hmm yeah thats what i was going for, what effects does it have on your system. i'm taking your tips into consideration :)
    How about blisters? and which socks do you use?
    Have you tried Energy gels, Electrolight drinks and such?

    yup i'm in agreement with you about the medal, this year's has much more uniqueness :)
    Really? coming over to Israel? that be awesome i believe :)
    I'll let you know as soon as they post any thing official about the marathon.
    Our marathons are international and we get a large number of runners from the US and such :)

    @awed_job my fastest time was a 3:53:40 which was my first race. My time at the half that race was 1:30:something but then I couldn't keep up. My 2n and 3rd marathons I've worked on trying to keep an even pace (but a slower overall time), and continue running the entire time. It's all in the training.
    Unfortunately the only running group in my area is through the local retirement/communiy center, geared towards ages 50+.
    I'd say you've got a pretty good chance if you're getting those paces. This year my goal race is Hartford, since it's a relatively flat, uncrowded course with excellent volunteers and fans. I give it an A+ (in case you havn't picked out a fall race yet)

    @recamel Yeah, I saw those pictures. Awesome stuff. I've thought about taking pictures during races, but never have. Maybe next time.
    Stuff like socks and blisters and energy gels is all hints that you just kid of, figure out through training. I'm sure you've already figured out that some stuff is more comfortable than others, haha. And for the 36-48hours after major races, I typically let myself gorge on whatever food that I crave, which usually amounts to several apples and other fruit. (I have one after ever run)
