"Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter." ~ Oscar Wilde
I wonder how long I can keep this up.7 commentsApril 20th, 2011

I'm convinced that so-called "cough suppressants" is a field of pharmacology pursued by scientists only after they've failed at everything else.
Those who can, work for NASA, those who can't make cough drops.2 commentsApril 19th, 2011

You don't want to look at my face, so I found a better one to wear. Apparently my lungs don't like their current home and are looking to relocate.
Screw antibiotics. And there aren't enough bees to make all the honey nor trees to make the lemons necessary to kick this thing. Someone get me a syringe full of miniature clowns.

Finally, some good news! My latest novel: "Howard Carter Saves the World" is complete.
Rest well, citizens of the Earth! Your world is safe once more. The alien threat has been vanquished with the judicious use of cats, humor, and quite a few frozen desserts. Howard Carter now gets a well-deserved rest before I hop in my time machine and revisit his tale for the next phase of its journey from daydream to finished book.
If you were waiting until I was finished to read it, now's your chance! I will very likely take it down sometime in May, which is when I will begin revising the manuscript to begin submitting to agents and editors.
For now, the complete first draft is up on the web for your reading enjoyment. Please stop back by to let me know what you thought.

Ugh. How am I supposed to guide my young hero through foiling an alien invasion if I can't concentrate through this raging sinus infection?
Bleah.
I suspect an alien plot.
I will not be foiled! Earth will be saved! I will use exclamation marks! And pudding! Mmmmmm... pudding. Exclamation mark pudding. Wait, what was I saying?6 commentsMarch 31st, 2011

This past weekend was my 11th wedding anniversary. I am arguably the luckiest man alive.

It takes awhile to upload the coordinates into the navicomputer...
Yesterday, some friends whisked me off to the Pacific Science Center to get my nerd on at the Star Wars Exhibit. And much fun was had by all... after we stopped and asked for directions from a nice man in a brown robe.

An informal poll/discussion: The group of friends here gathered is a fairly well-read lot. How do you find a book? How do you discover new authors? I don't care what kind of book you read and I'm not looking for recommendations, I just want to know how you know you're going to read it. What are your considerations? To whom do you look for recommendations?

I haven't posted in awhile because I've been dealing with a lot of clouds and too few silver linings. Every time I see a bit of a glimmer in the distance and chase it down, it turns out that someone dropped a gum wrapper.
It's been that kind of month, I guess. Hard to bring the humor when nothing going on around you is funny.4 commentsMarch 23rd, 2011

About
I am a natural force for the transition of coffee into words. I'm the author of the free online serial story "Howard Carter Saves the World" and I also blog about writing.

Television
Television is good for a laugh... but then I turn it on and the actual shows ruin the effect.
