    Yeah well while I appreciate Star Wars and its place in film history and its influence, it's quite a different kettle of fish to Lord of the Rings.

    And I prefer my fish to not have fucking Ewoks in them.

    Hmm...hmm... Okay, both mean too much to my childhood and my sense of wonder to pick.

    If I had to choose under duress, and only factoring in pure quality, then I'm saying that Lord of the Rings has sucked less often (the animated versions, the video games, Christopher Tolkien) than Star Wars (The Ewok Adventure, The Droids & Ewoks Cartoons, The Holiday Special, The Prequels, The Spinoff Books). The first three Star Wars are beyond compare, and the LotR books and Peter Jackson movies are mind-shattering awesome.

    But screw it, Star Wars has been with me since '84! That's where my vote is going!

    I have loyalties to neither, yet love both. Being from different era's there is no way to compare the original Star Wars to LotR. I like the new trilogy, especially since it had choreography and special effects. In the end I would have to say Star Wars.

    an almost-still-sleeping Earl votes for Star Wars.

    I really really love the original trilogy. I think with all the "geek" movies they've been making(which happen to be awesome), they would do extremely good to re-make the new trilogy to make it better. Or possibly re-make the old trilogy to make me never want to stop watching it, haha.

    Also, original Star Wars characters > LOTR characters.

    Although I'll give LOTR this....they do make for a great joke in Clerks II.

    I like all the information that came with the original trilogy. And I have to agree with @BluesDrive that a remake of the original wouldn't bother me. No one will ever be a better Luke than Hamill or a better Solo than Ford, but I like action. The fight scenes in the original don't interest me, though I do like watching the movies.

    star wars! my dad got me hooked from a young age (i'm only 15. xD) and even though the lord of the rings is epic and i love it, there's way more star wars stuff out there.

    on second thoughts... if you gave me a choice to either buy the star wars dvd or the LOTR's one, then i'd probably choose the latter.

    so i guessing after a ridiculous amount of rambling, i'm going to go with lord of the rings. :D
