All that fabric was used to make many quilts over the years. Here is my favorite. It now hangs over my fireplace.
The design originated from a scribble done with the old Crayola Color Changing Markers. I love the transparency effect, and actually invented a quiltmaking technique to construct this quilt.
I made two checkerboard layers: one in dark values and another in corresponding light values. Then I cut the pattern out of the light layer and "dropped" in onto the dark layer. Quilting around the appliqued pieces made them puff out, giving them even more dimension. You probably can't see it in this picture, but there is also a linear quilting pattern to flatten the background even more.
I worked in a quilter's fabric store for a time and even taught a few classes. Those days are behind me now. You just can't support yourself on those wages. Time to embrace the new media!
The fabric collection has got to go. No room to store it and no time to make use of it. With the upcoming move now is the time. Trying to get organized here...
Just sitting here in my garden. Found these amazing flower/speakers at a salvage center called "Urban Ore" in Berkeley. No they don't function. They're just Art!
The 3 of us are just chilling on the rug before I leave for work tonight. Jim and I are on opposite schedules today: He was 5am-1pm; I'm 6pm-10pm. At least we have the afternoon together. Roger's happy to have company!
