My two cents. It should really be about kids having benefits. If you have a kid, you should be able to share your insurance with another person whether you're in a relationship with them or not. Almost as a 'back up plan'. Otherwise, why not give everyone the right to choose one person to share their 'marriage benefits' with, whether you're married or not? While I personally want a monogamous relationship, I don't necessarily think that it's in our nature to be monogamous. I know my beliefs are radical, but when it comes down to it, some people choose to remain single, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve similar benefits. That's still a value judgement.
Also, true story, I met Rick Moranis once. We had a weird moment where he mimicked everything I was doing, but I thought, maybe this guy has some mime experience in his acting toolbelt. Turns out, I was standing in front of a mirror at the mall.
