Why, oh why? Maybe some of you "youngsters" can clue me into this ongoing trend.
I'm 22. By no means am I so "old" and "out of the loop" that I can't possibly grasp the concept of youthful trends - however - maybe someone can point out whether or not I'm crazy...
Ongoing trend alert! People between the ages of 16-20(21, 22 ish, depending on the person) - are participating in very serious, jealousy and anger ridden relationships where there is very little trust, accusations, and emotional abuse from both sides. Let me lay down a scenario.
You're 19. You've been dating a guy (or girl) a couple of months. You've already had several fights because he talks to his "female friend" (or male friend, for you guys). You can't TRUST them obviously! so what do you do? You switch phones with your significant other in order to read every incoming text message -- or you demand for them to let you read their messages, their FB etc etc.
You receive similar treatment. They are possessive and jealous, you are possessive and jealous - you sometimes even get all Jerry Springer on people "NUH UHH BITCH BACK OFF MY MAN!" (Or, "FUCK YOU DUDE, THAT'S MY GIRL!") in seemingly harmless conversations.
Now, maybe it's because I would never tolerate this behavior, have never tolerated this behavior, and would sooner live a life as a single old shrew than treat anyone or be treated in such a manner -- but I'm seeing this everywhere, especially in the age group under me.
am I crazy? Or am I just being exposed to it more? It didn't seem this bad five years ago... with the advent of instantaneous and readily available mobile conversation... it has presented more opportunities not just to connect - but to become paranoid and untrusting as well.
So, all this being said: THIS SORT OF BEHAVIOR IS STUPID. STOP IT. IT MAKES ME SAD.
Someone close to me is wrapped up in all this dumb crap. No matter how many times I tell her "You need to stop. This is going no where. This is emotional abuse, letting someone tell you how to live your life and treating you like shit by accusing you of cheating and running around is fucking low. Stop. Leave now." -- she always gives me the abused wife retort -- "BUT I LOVE HIM!!"
Nope. You're 19. You think you love him. I was 19 - not that long ago actually. I thought I was in love too - and when he started pulling this shit did I put up with it? Nope. Bought a plane ticket and came home. I'm doing FANTASTICALLY - but if it ever arose that someone wanted to treat me like that again - I'd up and fucking leave. Again. No hesitation.
I'm a very average girl, there is not a remarkable thing about me - and I somehow STILL think highly enough of myself not to put up with this crap.

There is one thing that sucks about having lived on the west coast. Every now and again I want regional food... from Oregon, that I cannot attain here.
I miss Abby's Pizza, Dutch Bros coffee, Del Taco, and carne asada fries from that silly drive-thru mexican joint that I can't remember the name of right now...
I would KILL for spuds right now...
However, I prefer Southern food.
They don't do sweet tea out west, they don't have sundrop - and there's no such things as chik-fil-a, krystals, and other staples of my horrible college kid diet...
but they did have damn good sushi...
Oh, if you can't tell - I'm highly food oriented. Maybe I should just suck it up and go to culinary school?
Brb, I'm going to go drinky drink with friends. This should be a lot of fun. Last night out before semester really begins.
I wish Bob liked going out to seedy bars in the middle of nowhere... but who can blame him? He doesn't drink, hates smoke and half retarded conversation, and finds this stuff torture...
With a projected death toll rising above 100,000, and an unimaginable amount of human suffering... it makes things like starbucks and a half assed race related comedy a complete waste of five bucks. Sacrifice something today, and help save lives. If you've got thumbs, DO IT!
