"Why is my coffee so goddamn small?!" he said while staring in disbelief at the cup just handed to him. The small red-headed Barista behind the counter was taken, quite literally, aback by this; a good two or three steps back, thought Khoa.
As he tried to beat back the split second embarrassment he had accidentally brought on upon himself, he too took a step back. It was then that he noticed something truly peculiar.
The small orb-like gadget he carried around in his pocket had begun to pulsate; uncontrollably beeping as it did so. The Poke Walker that Khoa had found, broken and beaten, just days before on the San Diego streets, had never even switched on, let alone make a noise such as a beep.
Khoa started to shake the device, furiously trying to figure out a way to get it to stop. It was in his frantic gestures that a small girl made the decision to come over and offer her help.
"Do you know why it is making that noise?" asked the seven year old.
The twenty year old Khoa knew that the little girl had the answer to her own question already; that she took pride in knowing more than he did.
"You let it out" she said with a sigh.
"What do you mean I 'let it out'?!" Khoa asked in bewilderment.
"Every Walker holds one Pokemon, but yours has, somehow, run free. Your Pokemon is out there somewhere, in our world, and it is now your job to get him back."
" ... but, this isn't even my walker." Khoa didn't understand.
"It doesn't matter" said the little girl. "You are the only one in this whole world that can keep that Pokemon safe. It is now your destiny."
Khoa turned to see the sun setting on San Diego, but something in the back of his mind told him that this day was far from over.
