I guess this is supposed to apply to people who are married, or are stuck dating the same person because they are afraid that they can't do better, or perhaps just the fear of basic loneliness. I say this because the amount of love you have for someone is not 'ALWAYS' greater than the amount of 'pain they give you.'

If it was always (or even seems) greater, then people would never break up. If your idea of compromising with someone else in order to create a more productive life for one another is being referred to as, 'the amount of pain they give you,' then you should probably check yourself, because that is a very pessimistic, narcissistic and closed-minded way of looking at it. Should you continue to look at it that way, I would say there's a very good chance that you are in for a lifetime of 'pain' and disappointment.

... or maybe you just like pain. Some people do.
