"Stinky"
15 January, 2002 - 28 February, 2010
RIP

Well, his little body finally gave out. He had a bad last day on Saturday, but he passed quietly in his sleep early Sunday morning. I guess it could have been worse.

My son brought him home when he was only a couple of months old, and he was with me almost every day of his life since. It's just not going to be the same around here without him.

Aww..I'm really sorry =[ He's rolling around somewhere in Ferret heaven =] in a pile of treats and a fresh stream to drink out of and watching over you all on a big screen tv I'm sure. It's always sad when an animal family member dies =[ I'm sure he was an amazing companion.

    Thanks much @LostElliot and @MariposaMegan - it's greatly appreciated.

And, yeah, he was a great companion. I never thought of myself as a "ferret-person" before he came to live with us, but I definitely am now. He was the smartest (sometimes frighteningly so), most personable non-human I ever met. I miss him badly.

One of the summer residents where I live had a couple of these he was babysitting for his daughter, they are so friendly and energetic, I imagine they would become very endearing pets. But I definitely understand where the nickname stinky comes from. So sorry for your loss.

@MrVisions - Thank you, Alexander. I really appreciate it. And, yeah, he was indeed energetic, right up until he started getting sick last year. Thankfully they sleep 16-18 hours a day. Otherwise, they'd run you ragged, lol.

@MariposaMegan - Oh, I have no regrets there at all. He was spoiled, pampered and loved every day of his life. And worth every minute of it :)

@nightiscoming - Thank you, Charles. Not sure I'm ready for that yet, but I'll definitely have more ferrets in my life at some point.

@juhsteen - Thank you. I'm sorry to hear about your loss, as well. I can't imagine losing more than one of them in a short period. I'm such a wimp when it comes to stuff like this.

@Serendip - Sorry to hear about your Scruffy, too. And, yeah, we never really forget them, do we? Thanks for the kind thoughts.

@irvSyaoran - Yeah, he was a cutie. I think he was about five years old there - and still climbing all over everything, lol. Thanks for coming by to comment.

    Thanks to you all.

Thank you @Joseph_Leonardson. Scruffy was a stray dog that befriended my family. She would sit by our letterbox and I (about 7 years old) would give her a huge hug when we came home. Eventually I convinced mum and dad to invite her into the family. She was a fantastic companion and there are no human equivalents to the relationship we shared.
No problem bud, all the best.

@irvSyaoran - Yeah, definitely like losing a family member. And he was more fun to be with than some of my family, lol.

@Serendip - That was a very cool thing to do. Rescues can sometimes make the best companions. Having had things really bad, they seem to value the stable home so much more. My sister rescued a dog from an abusive home about 15 years ago, and he's been the most devoted friend ever since. Unfortunately, she'll be going through this soon, too. He's 17 now, and just kind of winding down. It sucks, but the loss is far outweighed by all the good years.

    Thanks again, guys.
