    ATTENTION ONLINE GAMERS!

Ever been told that you're spending WAY too much time gaming?

That you're wasting your life away on it?

That what you're doing in games will never amount to anything IRL?

This smart lady begs to differ: http://www.ted.com/talks/jane_mcgonigal_gaming_can_make_a_better_world.html

A little lesson about pissing in the wind:

Sort of sums up my week. Metaphorically speaking, of course. Ew.

    SYNESTHESIA syn·es·the·sia (sĭn'ĭs-thē'zhə) n. (British sp. - synaesthesia)

a condition in which one type of sensory stimulation creates perception in another sense. The most common form of synesthesia is called "coloured hearing," where a person experiences a visual sensation when receiving an auditory signal (for example, hearing the musical tone C and seeing the colour red). Although tone-colour relationships are not identical for all people, there are general uniformities: the deeper a musical note, the darker the colour. Similar colour perceptions, called photisms, may accompany sensations of taste, touch, pain, smell, or temperature. Synesthesia has been used as a literary device by poets as diverse as Edgar Allan Poe, Arthur Rimbaud, Hart Crane, and Dame Edith Sitwell.

Another cool one from the Futureshorts channel. If you're a synesthete, you may recognize some of the imagery. If not, you may still find this interesting. Or unfathomable. Either way :)

I went out and got a really big ball of string. Wanna come with?

(Pic - I believe it's called "Adventure" and I think the artist's name is Daniel Lieske)

Pepsi is giving away a butt-load of money to worthy causes. You should check it out and vote for one. Personally, this one (and the wonderful, tough-ass lady who started this film festival and runs it every year) is particularly near and dear to my heart:

    http://www.refresheverything.com/screamfestla?utm_source=email

www.screamfestla.com provides a very important venue for up-and-coming writers and directors in the horror genre. Their last "Big Discovery" was the film Paranormal Activity, which they vetted in 2007. They're a great bunch, who have worked very hard from scratch in a terribly competetive field. The grant money will help grow their festival even more, and will mean good things for more starving artists.

Which is something I can very much appreciate :)

Vote for your fave cause every day all this month!

    "Stinky"
    15 January, 2002 - 28 February, 2010
    RIP

Well, his little body finally gave out. He had a bad last day on Saturday, but he passed quietly in his sleep early Sunday morning. I guess it could have been worse.

My son brought him home when he was only a couple of months old, and he was with me almost every day of his life since. It's just not going to be the same around here without him.

And now for something completely different...

    Chirgilchin - Homudal (Lonely Man)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ib5YHTAfOU

    Translation:

    If I should be alone
I would be alone like an eagle
Had I been born an eagle
I, too, would pleat a nest on the cliffs of Een-ne

    If I should be alone
I would be alone like a falcon
Had I been born a falcon
I, too, would pleat a nest on the cliffs of Kakpa

    Wandering and roaming
Somewhere I will stumble and fall
    The yellow sand worms
    Pleased to devour my flesh

Unnoticed, I will leave this life
And give myself over to darkness
    Black beetles on thorn bushes
    Drunk on my blood

    On what mountain
    Will my strong body lie?
    On what day
    Will my singing voice break?

The video portion is completely dark, but it's all about the music anyway. I was stranded in a rather desolate place for a while yesterday, and the experience (not to mention an exchange of comments with @MrVisions ) put me in mind of this song.
