Hey everyone, I need your opinions on some stuff for homework.
I need to tell you guys (for homework) that I’m taking a women’s history course that is:
- taught from “a feminist perspective”
- taught by a man.
What were your honest reactions to this?
Another thing I’m supposed to briefly mention is that the English language is either really racist or really sexist. (Possibly both?)
- Think of all the offensive names you can think of for someone who might be Asian, Hispanic, Black, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or a woman. Though probably not intentional, the way English is today, there aren’t very many deep-cutting names you can use to hurt a heterosexual, middle class, white male.
- (What would be the worst things you could call a white male?)
Most swear words, generally the ones you can’t generally say on TV, are sexist as well, I learned. You don’t call a man a dick if you want to cut into him; you insult a man by referring to him as genitalia that he doesn’t have. You call him a pussy. A cunt. An asshole. Body parts involved in the receiving end of sex. That last one is a reference to gay men.
You call people things that are supposedly the worst thing to be in society: a woman, a gay man.
So, after having said all that, I just need to write down your reactions and responses for homework. Thanks guys @drowning_sux@hmwhat@thekingofjonny
