Secret 16 of 30

I hate this picture, but I can't be bothered to take another dozen.

Okay, real secret (and this one is going to sound pretentious):

Ignorance through lack of motivation bothers me. Things like saying "well, how was I supposed to know that" just down right confuse me; if you want to know something, find out about it!

I frequently get called a nerd for knowing about things I'm passionate about, which has always struck me as being ridiculous, surely it's worse to NOT know about things you're passionate about? Some people seem to think that if you're a geek/nerd/intelligent person, you're just magically imparted with all the knowledge in the universe, which simply isn't true. The only reason I'm good at photography is because I spent 10 years of my life, including three at university, absorbing all I could know about it. The only reason I know geeky facts about technology is that I read New Scientist and WIRED and about nine different tech blogs a day. What's wrong with putting effort into knowing things?

Do you like to read to find out things?
Where do you learn things?
What are YOU passionate about?

I tend to read and learn about things online and on TV. Occasionally, I tend to pick up a national newspaper.
    I'm passionate about entertainment.

If anyone is curious what books I was holding up, this is Canon EF Lens Works [3rd Edition], which is probably the most authoritative work on the way in which optical lenses for image systems are designed and constructed.

I'm passionate about filmmaking and screenwriting. And I've always been this way. I have a lot of friends who only do it for fun,and that only makes me frustrated because they don't have the same passion I do.
    And I agree with you.
With the internet and other ways of getting information, it makes me mad when people don't understand the main problems going on in the world. Read up!
    Le sigh. : )

I get really passionate about: natural history, dinosaurs, human extinction, future evolution, discrimination, Europe, Frank Turrner, Jasper Fforde, Agatha Christie and Brighton.

Start me on any of them and you won't stop me easily.

I try to find out about things but quite frankly... most things dont interest me THAT much.
If I feel like it I'll read something on a topic but my fucking terrible memory hinders me a lot...

I'll happily read, watch or listen to anything that I think that I will find interesting. I learn most things from online sources such as journal articles, youtube videos and everyone's favourite - Wikipedia!
I'm getting quite passionate about UK politics recently and doing a lot of reading to make my best informed choice on who to vote for. I obviously didn't just use wikipedia for this though lol.

I'm honestly quite lazy about learning about things lately.
I get a lot of my info from my friends who know about things. I ask them if I want to know. Or I'll look something up online quickly.
I'm really interested in Audio (obviously) and have really tried to gain more knowledge through magazines and sources online. But it's hard.
I know a lot of what I know by being a sponge. I experience things constantly. But in a lot of cases, it's because I took a class or heard a story or it was something I obsessed over for a while, and learned that way.

This kinda ties in with my long rant a couple of days ago. A lot of my friends, who are far better as far as musical talent and knowledge goes, ask me for advice on such things. The only reason I know things that they don't is because I work hard at it. I can't just whip up a song in the key of whatever, set to this timing, on this tempo, etc etc. To me, experience is knowledge, not knowing.

Then again, I'm almost a purely kinetic person.

This is my favorite secret so far. I absolutely love Wired, but I've never read New Scientist.

I'm super passionate about writing and blogging about pop culture. I spend most of my time reading up on entertainment news and watching TV and movies so that I can review them and study them.

Do you like to read to find out things? Sooo... Yes I do Sir ! I read a LOT ! And not always to find out things i'm interested in but also to... increase my general culture level. I guess I'm curious in a good way.
    Where do you learn things?
Mostly newspapers, internet, some particulary specified magazines (not sure that's a real english sentence...)
What are YOU passionate about? Cinema, Make up (that's my job as a make up artist to be sure I know what i'm doing :p), Music, Literature and Painting.

I recently got interested in photography because my Dad bought his dream camera (Leica X1) and I'm trying to... well, improve my skills. And also understand what a good picture is and what a bad one is. The technical part isn't really my thing but I want to create and compose (?) a good picture. So i'm trying to do that with what I learned from drawing and painting over the years. I won't ever call myself a photographer though. I'm not that pretentious and I don't have the talent ! ;)

@Jerry Finally, another New Scientist loser! I love reading it, but these days I don't have the time to read much other than my Uni material, which makes me sad. My desk at work used to be filled with New Scientist and Rolling Stone mags - a bit of a contrast!
