The colour choice was a direct reflection of male and female palettes; the yellow signifying male and the magenta, female. The colours were used in the Adelaide Fringe text before so keeping it within the Adelaide colour palette was also a nice design coincidence. The king and queen are close together meaning that they share their thoughts openly and make decisions together. They are transparent to represent how open they are to their people; allowing the public to address their opinions about their rule. The swirling energy within each of the two represents all of the different ideas of the people that contribute to the Adelaide Fringe Festival. Ranging from painters and sculptors, to animators and musicians, Adelaide Fringe is on the cutting edge of the art world, celebrating all kinds of ideas and artists. The king and queen have their eyes closed to communicate that seeing is not just a physical experience. One can see more with their heart than their eyes if they know how to open their mind. The swirling hair seems to defy gravity which is representative of artists defying monotony and embracing new ways of art and creation. Finally, the Diamond and Crown floating above their heads represent each of the characters' royalty.
I may not win, but I had too much fun working on this piece to care. This was made entirely in Adobe Illustrator. If you have any questions regarding my technique, feel free to ask me!
The box represents the apple, (also alluding to Pandora's Box) and the person represents Eve even though it is male. I made the person white to represent innocence. The way he is standing was supposed to emulate Egyptian art; looking forward and unafraid (perhaps even blissful) of death. The scarf is the snake, tangled to represent the lies it told. The scarf is also representative of a noose which alludes to the impending sins Eve is about to commit. I'm not religious at all, but I thought I'd try making some creation myth art anyway xD
