I've enjoyed my Dailybooth experience - for the most part - but after some soul searching I've decided DB probably isn't for me. Thanks to everyone who has commented/followed/interacted... I appreciate it.

Cole Porter was an extraordinary songwriter. If you ever really listen to the lyrics you'll get a sense of how provocative and mischevious he really was. In the 2004 reworking of his life story De-Lovely we get an insight into his relationship with his wife and his fellow men.
Linda Porter: You knew so much about me when we met, don't you think I'd heard a thing or two about you?
Cole Porter: So you know that I... that I have other interests... interests some may see as unfair to you?
Linda Porter: You mean men?
Cole Porter: Yes, men.
Linda Porter: Let's just say you like them more than I do.
It's difficult to know what his relationship to his wife was exactly but the movie paints a picture of great romance, discounting his relationships with men as a bit of fun.
Another collection of gay characters from popular culture, this time from British cop show THE BILL. Superior is attracted to his junior, not knowing what to do with his feelings he acts more sternly to this man than anyone else who responds to him. Eventually defenses are broken down and they kiss. Though like My Own Private Idaho this doesn't end well either. Superior leaves, junior has to deal with his sexuality (and his relationship with his girlfriend) alone.
Art imitating life? Conceptually I like the idea of seeing films with gay characters... only they don't tend to end well.
Take Gus Van Sant's MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO for example. Mike Waters (River Phoenix) is clearly in love with Scott Favor (Keanu Reeves) only Scott doesn't love Mike back. Indeed he doesn't think a man is capable of loving another man.
Mike Waters: That's okay. We're going to be friends.
Scott Favor: I only have sex with a guy for money.
Mike Waters: Yeah, I know, I mean...
Scott Favor: And two guys can't love each other.
Mike Waters: Yeah. Well, I-I don't know, I mean, I mean for me, I could love someone even if I, you know, wasn't paid for it. I love you, and... you don't pay me.
Scott eventually marries a girl and forgets about Mike forever. Apparently his lifestyle had been mostly about annoying his family. (Poor Mike.)
I've been watching the last few episodes of UGLY BETTY this week. My parents have now seen Justin and Austin kiss several times. I'm really hoping this will make them a bit more understanding when I [eventually] come out to them...
