Two words: Minneapolis Pride. This city bleeds with pride and acceptance. My only pride parade experience, before the past weekend, had been Omaha’s pride parade which is nothing short of mediocre. Yes there’s a parade and festivities, tents, music, etc etc. However, there’s no heart. Now don’t get me wrong, I do firmly believe the gay community here is strong and alive. But not like Minneapolis. There was a pulse that connected each and every individual this weekend, especially during the parade. Whether the people there were straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, queer, what have you… we were all connected through pride and most importantly, acceptance. Never in my life have I felt more comfortable about who I am, and not only comfortable but just alive. It was beyond phenomenal, feeling at home and feeling like I completely belong. It was a weekend I will never forget. My eyes have been opened to a place where I don’t have to be insecure or feel like an outsider for being gay. I’m going to do anything and everything I can to live there.
