November is adopt-a-senior-pet month, so I'll be featuring a few older cats. GET EXCITED.
Aiko
15 years old, give or take
Arrived October 18, 2010
Aiko came to us in really pitiful shape. She's declawed on all four paws (which is heinous enough on its own), and was abandoned outdoors. She's a long-haired calico, but came to us so matted that she had to be completely shaved. She's still pretty emaciated, but eats like a horse, so hopefully that will change; currently she weighs 4.8 pounds. For anyone who's not aware, healthy weight for an average-sized adult cat is 8-9 pounds. She has a grade 3 heart murmur, coccidia, and a serious gum infection.
But...she's spry, and amazing, and purrs up a storm anytime she gets a little attention. I'm fostering her until she gains some weight. Gadget, my female cat, is terrified of her for some unknown reason (possibly because she looks more like a fluffy-faced skeletor than a cat).0 commentsNovember 6th, 2010

as much as she enjoys being cuddled, she does not enjoy pictures. in short, Gypsy Rose has had enough of your shit.
cameo appearance: Odin's whiskers. he just can't get enough of sticking his face in the camera.0 commentsOctober 22nd, 2010

Gypsy Rose
7-8 years old
Arrived September 20, 2010
apparently i'm on a senior cats kick today (just so everyone knows, November is national Adopt-A-Senior-Pet month, and we'll be having discounted adoption fees for seniors all month long)! i originally named Gypsy after the oversized purple shopvac from MST3K, only to find out later that we had already named a kitten Gypsy this year, so we had to tack Rose onto the end...disappointing. ANYWAY.
Gypsy came from animal control and can be super shy when she first meets you, but oddly enough she loves to be carried around. once you pick her up, she's totally at ease, which makes it tempting to just lug her around all day long. i feel like she'd get sick of it eventually, though. WON'T KNOW 'TIL WE TRY IT.5 commentsOctober 22nd, 2010

as a mature gent, Rambo feels it's his right to mutter loudly under his breath about the damn punk kids next door. especially when they reach over and slap him in the face.

Rambo
8-9 years old
Arrived May 27, 2010
the woman who brought Rambo to us swore up and down he was an unspayed female who had had a litter of kittens recently; we felt compelled to give him a super manly name to make up for that. he is, in fact, a neutered, declawed male. super friendly, but doesn't deal well with being in carriers and is always supremely cranky when he gets out. so cranky that he may perforate the unwary visitor. normally, though, he's all cuddles and purrs.2 commentsOctober 22nd, 2010

Loki remains calm and composed while all the other cats in the room attempt to climb my pants. for that, i love him all the more.

Loki looking vaguely annoyed. Berlioz (smaller brown tabby just at the edge of the photo) had sat upon him moments earlier.

Woodford Humane Society is a female from United States.
About
This is a showcase of all of the adoptable cats waiting for homes at the Woodford Humane Society in Versailles, KY! If you live in Kentucky and would like to bring a cat into your home, hike your butt out to Versailles and visit me. I will give you more information than you necessarily want about cat care, and to top it all off, I will send you home with a wonderful feline friend.
Cats adopted from the Woodford Humane Society are:
-Spayed or Neutered
-Fully vaccinated (rabies, distemper combo, and feline bordatella)
-FeLV/FIV/Heartworm tested
-Dewormed
-Treated for external parasites (fleas, ticks, earmites, etc.)
-Huggable
Adoption fees:
-Kittens (5 months old and younger) are $90
-Adult cats (over 5 months old) are $70
-Pure-bred, declawed, and polydactyl cats are $90
That is a full year's worth of vet care, plus up to 20 years of love, for $70-$90 tops! Additionally, all cat and kitten adoption fees are two-for-one, and we frequently feature cats in adoption events that involve reduced or FREE adoptions. (Also, all of my wonderful advice is absolutely free.)
If you have any questions about the cats you see here, please email me: beth@woodfordhumane.org. I'll be happy to help you out!
