Now we who are strong have an obligation to bear the weaknesses of those without strength, and not to please ourselves-Romans 15:1

So this weekend I was at a B-day party, and I saw one of my friends, who has talked openly about struggling with lust, being very...snuggly with a girl at the party. I got a little irritated at his lack of resolve and I shot him a text message to give him a reality check. He cut it out, and I sat just a bit smugly and ate almost a whole bowl of potato chips.

I was thinking about it later, and while I am glad that I could help keep my friend accountable, I was being extremly judgemental. I judged Him for giving in to a lust temptation while I was in the other room giving in to my own gluttony temptation, which I particularly struggle with. God totally humbled my heart when He showed me this.

The point is, sin is sin when you get down to the heart of the matter. It is all disobedience to God and no matter how "bad" or "not so bad" a sinful act might seem, when your heart gives in to temptation, that is the real source of sinfulness. So even if your strong in one area, bear the weaknesses of others in that area because you've got your own areas of weakness to worry about.

PS Sorry It's been so long. Between a death in my family and a virus on my computer, I haven't had time to DB. But my God is a God of fresh starts, amen? =)

At first I did not think of it as a gift, and begged God to remove it. Three times I did that, and then he told me, "My grace is enough; it's all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness. 2 Corinthians 12 (MSG)

Is there anything in your life that you would consider a thorn in your side? A weakness? A hurt? An illness?
Just as Paul experienced, most people cry out to God to pull out all their thorns. But the thing is, While God does heal and strengthen, sometimes the answer to that prayer is going to be no. God says Himself that his strength is perfected in weakness. I mean look at Paul, he used to go around hunting down Christians until Jesus turned his life around and used Paul to write much of the New Testament! (Acts 9)
The point is, although it may be hard to see, weaknesses are actually gifts from God. Some are opportunities for us to grow, some strengthen our faith, and some make the power of God undeniable in our lives. =)

    Wanna know a secret?
Sometimes, I have doubts about my faith
    (GASP!)

So many christians think that believing means never doubting, that having doubts makes you a "bad" Christian, or maybe not even one at all. Well, I am here to tell you, that is false.

"'Come!' He (Jesus) said. And climbing out of the boat, Peter started walking on the water and came toward Jesus. But when He saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid. And beginning to sink he cried out, 'Lord, save me!' Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught hold of him. 'You of little faith, why did you doubt?'"-Matthew 14:29-31

Here is Peter, and he sees Jesus WALKING ON WATER and then he HIMSELF walks on water, but has doubts, WHILE HE IS WALKING ON WATER! Crazy huh? The best part of this story is the next part. When his faith fails him and Peter starts to sink, he cries out to Jesus for help. Jesus doesn't cross him arms and say "Drown, you worthless sinner!!!" He reaches out and grabs him. I can just see Jesus sighing to himself like an exasperated parent. "Pete, why didn't you trust me, eh? Look, I've got you, did you really think I was gonna let you drown?!"

God can handle your doubt. He wont be angry, He wants you to cry out as you sink so He can save you from the depths. <3

I just heard a great teching on Abraham and Isaac, and since there were some really good questions about it i thought I'd share =)

In Genesis Chapter 22, God tells Abraham to sacrifice his only his Isaac. Abraham is about to do it when God tells him to hold up, and tells Abraham that because he did not even withhold his only son, his family will be super blessed.

There's a few things that must be undestood about this story:

    1. IT IS NOT ADVOCATING CHILD SACRIFICE
God condemns child sacrifice through the entire Old Testament. Human sacrifice was a common practice of pagan groups of the time. God never intended to let Isaac go through with it

    2. GOD KEEPS HIS PROMISES
Prior to this, God had promised that He would establish a great nation through Isaac (Gen. 21:12). Abraham had good reason to believe this becasue Isaac was the result of another promise of God, concieved when his wife Sarah was 99 YEARS OLD. So Abraham had great FAITH in God's promises. Still, how could he go through with it? We find the answer in Hebrews 11:19 "He considered God able even to raise someone from the dead, from which he got him back as an illustration."

    3. ISAAC WAS NOT A CLUELESS CHILD
Historians put Isaac at about 25 when this whole thing took place because of the word that was used to describe him refered to older youths. Isaac was no idiot, and when he began to get a funny feeling he voiced his concerns to his father "The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for the offering?"(Gen 22:7) Abraham replied that God would provide one.

    4. ISAAC MUST HAVE BEEN WILLING
So if Isaac hadn't figured it out already, he surely knew what was up now. Now, If I was in the same situation, Id be bookin it out of there. But the Bible does not say that Isaac struggled at all. Think about it, you've got strong, young Isaac and his around 150 year old dad. There is no way Abraham could have forced him. So why would Isaac obey his father? First, parents were much more respected then than they are now. Two, he had to have a strong FAITH.

That's really what the whole story is about. God was asking both of them, Do you have faith? Do you trust me? And its an example for us to follow where he leads, even when we dont know where he's leading us.
And to look closely, theres a bigger picture ;)

One of the questions most asked by non-Christians, and by me when I was an almost-athiest, is

"If there is a loving God, why is there suffering in the world?"

Well, Im not going to pretend that I know all of God's reasons, but I can give you one reason that can start to shed some light on this tough question.

So God made the world, then He made us. Now, God loved us, so much, and He wanted (wants) us to love Him back. We all know, however, that you cant force someone to love you, and if in some cruel way you manage it, it isnt really love. So God gave us FREEWILL.

Think of it this way, if you tell you microwave to heat something up, the microwave really has no choice in the matter, it cant even break on its own, so it heats up your food for you. Saying that your microwave cares about you or is doing something kind by heating up your food is pretty much crazy.

God doesn't want machines, He wants hearts, He wants love, so, unlike the majority of micowaves, He gave us the ability to say no. When we respond to Him with the love we were always meant to choose on our own, He fills our lives with His perfect, amazing love. But when we choose to refuse Him and choose evil things, THATS were suffering comes in, brought by our own hands.
(Remember there's more to it than that, this freewill thing is just one part of the equation!!!)

"I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness," Jeremiah 31:3

"The Bible must be the invention either of good men or angels, bad men or devils, or of God, therefore:
    1) It could not be the invention of good men or angels, for they neither would nor could make a book and tell lies all the time they were writing it saying "Thus saith the Lord" when it was their own invention.
    2) It could not be the invention of bad men of devils, for they would not make a book which commands all duty, forbids all sin, and condemns their souls to Hell to all eternity.
    3) Therefore, I draw this conclusion, that the Bible must be given by divine inspiration." (Robert W. Burtner, Robert E. Chiles)

    What do you think???

She said to the king,"The report I heard in my own country about your words and your wisdom is true. But I didn't believe the reports until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, I was not even told half." 1Kings 10:7

We've all heard about God. We've heard that God loves us, we've heard that you arent a good Christian if you dont go to church, we've heard that Christian are perfect people, we've heard that Jesus is the answer.

But how do you know what is true and what is false? (the middle two are false!)

Well, just like the woman in this verse, listening to the reports that others give us isn't always enough, wont clue us in to the whole story. We need to see what God is all about for OURSELVES. So dont just believe what your pastor tells you, or what your parents tell you. Go straight to the source, the BIBLE and see for yourself.

I firmly believe that if you're willing to seek Him out, you will find that all He is soo much better than anything you've heard.
