When you've been around the world a couple times, sitting back in your own home can be quite humbling...

I was born in Hanover Germany, to a Swiss mother and an Australian Aboriginal father. I came to Australia when I was only young. My whole life since then, I have mourned the loss of my roots...as I meld into the cultural baron waste land that is the modern network society. Only when I walk through the late night streets of Melbourne, after the last few drunkards have dissipated to their quiet little corners of the world...and the last taxi wanders aimlessly for that last fare....does the homeless man laying on the corner of the old chocolate factory and guitar store wonder about me. Who am I? Where I am from? Where am I going? Why are you smiling so...? ...it is sad that I could not answer him, but in the morning I will barely be a face to that man, passed off as a dream.

You can travel the world many times over and never find what you're looking for. History is fraught with broken lines and ghosts in paintings, we are becoming what I've always dreaded we would be. Faceless...

My name is David, descendant from a great French knight, my family designed the jet engine, built the largest cement factories in American history, held chairman of the Swiss bank, pioneered great schools of ballet in the old city Dresden...lived through the bombing, saw life stop. I am David, and I'm just number.

Faceless or not, I am a number which makes a difference... and that is why I can still smile, in this city full of ghosts.

"Or like a poet woo the Moon,
Riding an armchair for my steed,
And with a flashing pen harpoon
    Terrific metaphors of speed."

    — Roy Campbell, 'The Festivals of Flight,' 1930.

I've had this photo up before, but since I don't count on posting much I thought I'd just leave it.

This is from a couple years ago (almost 3), I flew this PA 44 'Piper Seminole', twin turbo prop over Melbourne few times.

Engine out flying on this thing can be quite a challenge at low airspeed high power settings (each engine 180 Hp) because propeller slows down quickly and depending on the location of CG it can be tougher to handle (even when applying appropriate rudder). A lot of pilots say two engines twice the trouble, but I look at it like 'two engines twice the safety'.

Oh how I miss the sky... But shed no tears, I will return.

Experimenting with antibiotics at RMIT Microbiology Lab, BSL 3, Medical Branch.

I was one of those kids who grew up watching Dexters Lab, then built himself an actual secret lab (in the laundry room).

Recently I figured, finding the cure is one thing... but FUNDING it is another. So I take it upon myself to become a multi millionaire, so that I can fund whatever research I like. Even be a part of it.

Here I am with with Miss 'Universe' Australia at the 21st Century Financial Education Summit. Also there: Richard Branson, talking about his commercialized space flight program, Jamie Mc Intyre and my friend Nick Halik - a local multimillionaire (from Melbourne) who spent 30 million $ of his own money to train at the Russian Space Training Facility, Star City, for three years to become a flight qualified astronaut.

So I asked Nick how he got so damn rich and did all these amazing things, like go to space, have lunch on the bow of the shipwreck of the Titanic (in a submarine), perform the worlds highest halo dive, summited some of the highest mountains in the world and flown to the edge of space in a Soviet-era built Mig25 to view the curvature of the earth... all based on a ten point list he wrote when he was just a little boy, based on Tin Tin comics, while locked inside his house for the first 10 years of his life due to medical complications.

So he told me everything, all the secrets and how the world works around money... and to make a long story short, I'm fast on my way to becoming a multi millionaire myself!

Currently working towards becoming the first Australian Aboriginal to go up in to outer space.

I thought I was coming to rescue you... but in the end, I was the one who needed rescuing. ha ha ha...

    Life is wonderful that way.

Good bye Canada... you have been my greatest journey. And now... I turn the page, to the next great chapter of my life. So what have I learned form all this...? That you should find something you love...and follow it till worlds end.

I've made my way across Canada, from Niagara Falls to St Catharines, to Toronto - Ontario, Montreal - Qubec , Moncton - New Brunswick, Margate to Charlotte Town - Prince Edward Island and Halifax - Novascotia. I've spent 23 hours in the air, 28 hours on the VIA Rail and 3 days on the road. I've been attacked by a bull, ripped off by a squirrel, gotten stranded on a mountain side, felt sub zero temperatures, slept on the streets and worked on a farm so that I could feel the complete freedom of a nomad. I have traveled over 35, 0000 km from my home on the other side of the world.

I sat alone in this forgotten farm land, nothing but the sound of my breath and the distant wale of a Coyote... I am watching the cross hairs through my scope. Wind picks up... chill goes down my neck and I shudder for a bit. It all comes down to this... the bullet, the target and the elements. Stop breathing... hold deadly silent. Heart beats will slow down... and all the memories of that battle field will come flooding into my mind. Squeeze the trigger gently and... split the empty bottle of coke in half ...ha ha. I win.

Hi guys, haven't been here for a while!

Just checking in on a few old friends, seems everything's going well.

Life has taken an amazing turn since I last posted. I'm flying high as usual. Moving to Canada on the 29th of March. I'll get off at Toronto Pierson Int and drive down to St Catherines, stay there for a month or so an than it's off to Halifax, Fall River.

I'm looking forward to seeing 'all' of Canada from the view of my office window.... at 25, 000 ft. How high are the Rocky Mountains? Maybe I'll run into one :P Also looking forward to seeing some 'actual' snow! Do you get much snow in Canada? ...lol

I hope you Canadians are as nice as everyone says you are! Maybe you'll forgive me for my point blanc and crude sense of Aussie humor.

Hope you're all well - Cpt. David Martin
