Hi there.

I'm tired today. Today was the 2nd party in my classroom this week. We had a birthday, we had a birthday today, and tomorrow we are having our Valentine's Day celebration. We didn't have the party today so we could completely honor and celebrate the birthday boy, and not have him combined into another holiday. I had some parents that thought it was silly, but I stand by my decision. The kids seem okay with it, why aren't the parents?

I'm just tired in general I think. It's been a week full of sugar packed treats and so much excitement and I'm already shutting down and it's only Tuesday!

I'm looking forward to this coming three day weekend.

    Aww, I remember having parties when I was that age! Parties as an adult really aren't as fun.

    I really admire your decision not to have the Valentine's party today! My friend's birthday in primary school (not sure what you call it in the US - junior school? Age 5 - 11, anyway) was on Valentine's Day, and she never got a proper party :(

    @Kyatic Thanks for the vote of confidence! I feel like after he leaves preschool, most teachers just aren't going to do that. It's just not fun for a four year old boy to have to spend his birthday with pink and hearts. Not the thing he really wants to do.

    I agree with your choice!! My birthday coincided with the Super Bowl a lot of years, as did Anthony's, and we both share a hatred of it because our birthday parties as kids were messed up because of it! You did a good thing and I'm sure he'll look back and appreciate it!

    I agree with your choice. And I think the kid will be happy with it, too. As will the other kids--two days of treats! lol

    @Hope_Moskal Thanks!

    @saekachan My friend's nephew had his birthday the day of the Super Bowl too. I was at their Super Bowl party. During halftime, we sang to him, had cake, and watched him open presents. He turned 7. He said that he loved having his birthday on Super Bowl day because all of his family was together, there was a ton of good food, and he got to watch/play his favorite sport. Guess it's different for each person.

    I always think it's rotten for kids (and adults, for that matter) who have birthdays on holidays. When you're little your birthday's the most important thing ever and having to share it seems so unfair!
    I'm lucky that my birthday's in March, the nearest holiday is St Patrick's day and if you aren't Irish that doesn't really mean much, not here anyway. What is good that my birthday's 2 days after my granny's, so it's a lovely excuse for a day out with her :)

    @Bethman_Mandog St. Patrick's Day is a big deal here no matter what. I'm so pumped for that day. We're having a big day in my class!

    @BassClarinetNerd aww wow! What do you do for it? The only patron saint we celebrate here is St Andrew's Day, cause he's our one, and even then nobody does anything. It's a bank holiday, but that's it really.

    @Bethman_Mandog We're going to wear all green, we'll eat food dyed green, we'll go on a leprechaun hunt, read books about st. patrick's day, do art, shamrocks, luck, etc. Fun times!
