Went out on a whale watching boat today at Depoe Bay, Oregon, to spread the ashes of my uncle, Brian, as well as some of the ashes of my grandmother, Doris. Years ago, Depoe Bay is where we spread my aunt Mary's ashes. Brian is now with his sister.

I have to say, forcing family on a boat to say goodbye? I think it's damn brilliant. I did when Mary got us all on a boat together, and I still love it. I love boats and I like that it forces some people to experience something they otherwise might avoid. Even if you get seasick, it's a good experience to have, and a damn fine sight to see.

The artist in action at this week's Frost Park Chalk-Off! The artist being me, of course. Check out the finished piece and vote for me in the comment thread on FeedTacoma.com! If I win, I a shiny piece of glass art and four free meals at a local fish place.
